Scott brings up an interesting point. I shop occasionally at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe (for vitamins) and the stuff they have on the shelves is unbelievable and all apparently unregulated. The loophole allowing companies to essentially escape FDA regulation by labeling their substances "nutritional supplements" and printing a boilerplate disclaimer of all the claims made on the same freaking label should be closed. And another thing -- it really bothers me that people get and apparently accept medical advice from clerks at GNC and similar stores. |
