My first MLB game was when my Dad took my brother and me to St. Louis to see Bob Gibson pitch in 1968 - his immortal 1.12 ERA season. I don't remember the opponent, but I have a super-clear memory of Lou Brock making a running catch of a line drive and then throwing a laser beam from left field all the way to first to double up someone. I was 7 and it's like it happened yesterday! The cards won their 2nd straight pennant that year, but got beat by the great Detroit pitchers in the series. A little different story last year. |
