1979. I was trading cards with a guy in my neighborhood. We had a multicard deal going with the main piece being a 1968 Clemente. Since he had the better of the deal I asked for him to throw in a goofy looking card of a nobody. A 1958 Bell Brand Gino Cimoli. I wish I still had that short printed regional. |

When I was 14 (in 1975), I traded a bunch of steel pennies and buffalo nickels for a baseball signed by the 1939 Cleveland Indians. It was still white and wrapped in tissue paper inside its original box. I still have it over 30 years later ... |

*I traded a Nolan Ryan Rookie in VG condition and an '85 Mark McGwire for a mint 1955 Topps Hank Aaron. Remember, this is the Aaron card with Willie Mays sliding into home in the background.* |

Around about 1998 or so I traded the SI with Jordan/Perkins on the cover (North Carolina) for a T206 Nap Lajoie Portrait that graded a 6 years later. |

In junior high, about '75, I traded a '28 Pirates signed ball for an uncut '49 Bowman sheet. Seems one sided now, but at the time it was the deal of the century. The ball had cost me $20, I sold the sheet for just under $400. a few years later. |

Back around 1987 after McGwire had his stellar rookie season his cards were HOT - I had about 50 of them that I had put away as I was really into the speculation side of rookie cards - anyway I would take 2-3 at a time down to Merle's, the local card shop and he would trade me old Topps cards which he couldn't sell. I picked up a 1957 Frank Robinson for 2 McGwire's...I traded 3 or 4 for Al Kaline's 1954 Rookie. I loaded up on 1950's and 60's rookie cards of Hall of famers because he just couldn't sell them and the McGwire cards were flying out the door. Too bad he never had anything older than 1948 Bowman in that shop or I would have discovered the joys of Prewar back in the 1980's when they were much more affordable. |

I recall trading my entire stack of Twins players, about 50 cards, for one mantle and one ruth card. It must have been the two cards from 62 set, because of the Ruth cards in that set. many regrets, but it was spur of the moment. I wish I had them back now. Only because I live in Minn. I would love to see those old obscure cards (players) once again. |

I once traded a 1989 Upper Deck factory baseball set for an E97 Meyers. The owner of the store, who is now one of the largest dealers in the country, threw in $35.00 to make the trade even. I sent the Meyers to PSA. It came back a seven. |

In 1984, I traded a 1984 Topps Craig Nettles for an unknown rookie - Mattingly. I agreed to do the deal with my friend, but I had the Nettles card at home. That night, I accidentally sat on the Nettles card, and killed the card. My friend was no longer interested in completing the trade for a creased Nettles. Even then, us 12 year olds cared about the condition of a card (this was before the go-go years of the late 80s). |

In 1990 at the height of the Griffey UD Rookie card hype, I traded 6 Griffeys (I had about a dozen, all from packs) for 3 53 Topps - Mantle GD, Paige VG/EX and Robinson VG/EX. I still like that one. |

I traded about 25 Series 1 Garbage Pail Kids for a handful of cards from the 60's and 70's including a second year Nolan Ryan, Brett RC, etc. This trade actually occurred on the playground at recess. Considering this was the mid-1980's, and we were both about 10 years old, I can only assume this kid raided his unsuspecting parents' collection. Funniest thing is how he made fun of ME for the rest of the year for getting the short end of the deal. |
