Can anyone tell me why this Cutlery Johnson sold for so much money? Last week a Cutlery Cobb sold in vg-ex condition for less money. Is the Johnson more scarce? Ebay item nuber 140080873468. If anyone can put up the link, that would be helpful. I am not very good with computers. Thanks for the info. |

I hope the winner isn't a board member. That price is nuts. |

Are the Johnson's harder to come by than any others in the set? I was hoping to get a few, but it looks like I'll be looking for another set to collect. PC's are getting very expensive. |

Dan, the Cobb was an SGC20, but it did have a VG-EX front. I bid on the Johnson, but nowhere near the winning price. I was surprised a little about the price also. A much nicer Johnson PC796 sold a couple weeks ago for about $800.00. I collect Novelty Cutlery PC's, but only have four. Not sure if any are harder to come by than others. They all seem difficult. I'm going to branch out & start collecting the 1910 Sepia PC796 also. I probably will have more success with those. |

Paul - It was only in a SGC 20 holder because it was postally used. That shouldn’t take away too much from the value since that was what its original purpose was. It could be a PSA 4 or 5 MK, but the Johnson was just A because part of the card was missing and it was postally used. My feelings about postcards are that they were chosen unlike cards that were distributed randomly. I would guess that most people wanted to send a Cobb or Johnson than Leever. Just a thought. |

I never did see the back of the Cobb, but I thought it was a harsh downgrade by SGC. They can be tough at times. Someone got a pretty good deal on that Cobb IMHO. |

Someone would have got a better deal on it if someone else didn't bid. |

Im glad Im not the only one who thought that the Johnson went for an excessive amount. Too bad we cant see who the underbidder is. I dont think the winner is a board member. I also think this is one of those cases where two bidders put in ultra high "not to be topped" bids and got burned. |

and BTW the Cobb was downgraded due to the fact that it was postally used. SGC has NO tolerance for postcards that have been used for the purpose for which they were intended. |

I wish we would stop bringing up final sales of postcard sales. I was hoping to keep adding to my collection this year. Had to stop collecting caramel cards.. Now postcards. I think non-sports is the next move for me... The price was a little high for today's standard but I have not seen many of the Walter Johnson cards. I was high bidder on it with ten minutes left ... What number am I???? |

Wow. What a great collection. I am also in awe. I thought I had a nice start in postcards until I saw yours. Amazing. I have looked for the Buffalo and Rochester PC's for awhile now. Now I know why I can't find them. Joe |

Every once in a while a board member lays out part of his collection in a matter of fact manner -- and then I am just blown away. Consider me blown away on this one. |
