If people were willing to come from far out of town and Saturday, understandably, would have been the only night they could have attended, I think we here in the area could and should have made the effort to accommodate them. The proper thing to do, I think. Nothing to stop a second, weekday get together at another time. Barry, Jeff, Mike, thanks for your efforts.

Does anyone else agree this is a microcosm of what happens far too often here? What starts out as a well intentioned fun thing turns into a downward spiral of squabbles, accusations and contentiousness. Guys and gals, set a date time and place, and go have fun! Whoever shows up shows up! Although my wife is a New Yorker and has lots of family there, I tend to avoid the City as we Californians know all New Yorker’s are rude and impolite, have tunnel and bridge trolls and generally eat their young. <-insert smiley face here.

Okay, I talk to Barry at lunchtime and he tells me that there will be a post at 600 or so confirming the dinner. At 6-whatever the post shows up. Before committing to a dinner in December, I decide to eat dinner tonight, and now I come back and Barry's out, the date may or may not be moved, the place may or may not be moved. Can someone summarize wtf just happened here? And where's Julie McCoy when you need her?

i really hope this is a joke...i can't believe how ridiculous this has become...as of now i will still hold the table. it does not get that crazy loud in there, but it is a fun atmosphere, as i mentioned before one of my BEST friends is the MANAGER, so we WILL get taken cared of...i can't make it clearer than that...(i.e. big table for however many we need, nice discount, etc...). from the beginning, i didn't care we went, or what day it was, but it seemed that the general vote was sat the 9th, and because morton's didn't work, Duke's become the back-up plan...i don't care if someone suggests another idea, i just want to get together with card-flipping people for dinner & drinks...so are we doing this or not?

some people have been demanding an official vote...well here goes, let's do it!

i DO NOT care what night we have the dinner, i live in midtown and ANY night will work for me...

with that said, i do think a weekend would be better, we could stay out later, AND MANY corporate x-mas events happen DURING THE WEEK in the city at restaurants (this is what my friend, who is in the restaurant busy told me), so he even said weekends are better...

my vote: sat. dec 9th...

can some peopel please vote here to satisfy others...IF the vote swings to a weekday, I AM FINE WITH IT...just lets make a decision here, please...

Hi everyone- I've calmed down from yesterday so I felt I should post. I thought I was doing the right thing by taking charge and organizing a date, and I felt Saturday was a good time. I had no personal agenda other than I invited Leon as my guest and the weekend was the only time he could fly in. In retrospect, I'm sorry I got involved. I should have let somebody else set this up and merely cast a vote like everyone else. I don't know what else to say. I know this board can get contentious but to carry on like we did over getting together for dinner makes this thread one for the time capsule. Sorry if I got people angry and I apologize if in any way I was responsible for some of this chaos.

I'm an occasional poster but live on Long Island and would very much like to attend and meet some of you guys. I vote for Saturday -- weeknights are difficult for me because I work in Suffolk County and have to make arrangements to leave work early to make it into the city in time for dinner. Duke's is fine with me.

And Barry, in my view, you have nothing to apologize for.

Sheesh, things get crazy on this board.

First of all - Barry, think you did a great job. I've only chimed in a few times but I certainly would not have wanted the task of organizing all of us so I applaud you for your efforts and still look forward to dinner with everyone. As I've stated before, my vote is for Saturday. If we decide on a weeknight, I will make every effort to attend, but it would be unlikely. I am 6-week old attorney here at a large NYC law firm. I will be the first to say that on a week night, I don't see 7,8 or 9pm on a regular basis. So, as Leon has a very valid reason for needing a weekend, I also would prefer a weekend as I probably would only have a 10% chance of getting out of work on a weeknight before 9 or 10pm.

Since I already thanked you for your efforts in an earlier posting, maybe this is redundant, but I do want to thank you again, Barry. To even attempt to tie together all of our personalities into some sort of coherent plan, deserves some kind of Medal of Valor, at least.
