Headed to work right now, but would like to thank all veterans both past and present for their service. It allows us all to live the lives we lead and for that we are eternally grateful. Thanx Again ! |

I have been a NY Giants season ticket holder since I can remember. My long deceased Grandfather had them since the 40's. During the Gulf War in 1991 my brother an Air Force Pilot went to a Giant game and was offended that during the National Anthem employees of the Giants (non-players) on the sideline did not remove their caps. He wrote a general letter to the Giants about this. He was surprised to recieve a handwritten letter from Mr. Mara stating that this would not happen again. It is 2005 and I have gone to close to 100 games since then and not one employee has had his hat on since that letter. The late Wellington Mara was a class act and remembered all war heros and should be commended. |

Jack Palance just passed a few days ago. Like Pat Tillman, Mr. Palance gave up a pretty decent athletic career (18-2, I think, as a boxer) to serve in WW2 and almost burned to death in his B-24. |

Steve, you must have been devastated by the Forrestal fire but thankfully you weren't aboard at the time. Thanks, to you and everyone else on the forum who served, for putting your lives on the line for me and mine. |

I have been reading a book on past Heisman trophy winners which was made even more poignant lately with it being veterans day. I think just about every Heisman trophy winner from the late 1930's through the early 1940's gave up so much of a sports career to serve their country. People like Nile Kinnick, Tom Harmon, Angelo Bertelli and many others either died, or almost died serving their country. Not that their sacrifice was anything more than the ones made by my ancestors or anyone else's, it just makes you realize how much so many Americans have given up so that we can live in this country and enjoy collecting Sports Memorabilia. |

He never liked to talk about it, but apparently he served under General Patton of all people. We only talked about his military service once when I was about 15 years old but I never forgot the experience. |
