My uncle was Norwegian American, and spoke with a Norwegian accent all his life. He owned several volumes of Norwegian jokes, and regularly told Norgwegian jokes. Whether or not he would be offended if a Swede or German told a Norwegian joke I don't know, but most Norwegian Americans I've known have told Norwegian jokes. Perhaps a prerequisite for joking against others is joking against oneself. Interestingly, I don't remember my Uncle ever saying saying a joke against other nationalities or kinds, even when only fellow Norwegians were present. |
