We've had a couple of "heavy" Threads this past week. So, to "lighten" up the mood, I thought it
would be nice to see what excites members when they are not engrossed with their BB cards ?
After all....."Man cannot live by BB cards, alone".

I'll start with my "American Heavy Metal", pre-War (Vietnam), Vintage wheels. And, check-out the
license plate on my 1960 T-Bird.....all serious T206 collectors should have "T206" on their plate.

Very cool Ted. We had a 65 T-Bird rag top as our LBI car since my father bought it new in 1965 while home on leave from " HELL" as he called it.

Will try to dig up some pics of it later.

For now I'll have to make do with my current mistress.
One my wife doesn't mind.

Well, i;m doing the body work on my chevelle. done almost everything to the car lol. motor is pushing over 300 hp from a little 350 cu in. i'm done recently, roller rockers, new valve covers, built the bottom have. in the summer i work on my car, and in the winter baseball stuff

Starting in 1976, I pretty much put my cards on hold for my cars--I've owned 75 Corvettes (model years 1954 to 1972). Fuel injected 1962's are my greatest interest, although right now I have two 55's, a 57, a 60, 6 62's, a 63, 65, 67, and two 71's.
I had finished the E98's, T-205's and T-206's (except for the big three back then) way back ---in the last year have finished off the E101's and E90-3's with help from board members--working now on E95's.
Now that we've moved from Southern California to Wisconsin, it's cards in the winter, cars from April through October.

I appreciate the comments--on a Pastor's salary, with four daughters (now through college) I had to make the hobbies more than pay for themselves. Couldn't take money out of the budget. I've been blessed to make money on every Corvette that I've had.
The daughters are 5' 11", 6 foot, 6-1, and 6-2 1/2. The two younger ones played Division 1 Volleyball on full rides--that'as how I got to keep a few cars. God has been good to me---people ask how I run across all the good deals--my response is that I go to church 6 times a week, and that really helps! (We do 6 services each week---congregation has about 7600 members)

T-Birds, Cudas, Jags, Chevelles and Camaros, Vettes and Vespas, great rides all. I've appreciated vintage cards almost as long as cards . I've had this 67 327/300 4 sp coupe for close to 15 years now, the 04 FatBoy for 3.

Thanks for the compliments on my scoot...the long story some what shorter.

The scooter is actually a Bajaj, in the mid 70's Bajaj purchased the rights and the old stock of Vespa scooter parts (Vespa was concentrating on their new P200) and rebuilt the scooters. Mine is a 60's Vespa Sprint 150, and runs like a top now thanks to Ryan at Bluecat Garage. Top speed is around 65, and that is with all stock/original parts, next year I'm thinking of a few mods to increase the CC's. The best part is parking in Minneapolis at bike racks for free.

Jay, not too much racing with it but the Harley guys give me the thumbs up for my rumbling pipe.

I used to love old cars and i bought a 68 camaro about 12 years ago that needed some body work.I later bought a 66 nova,then traded that for a 69 chevelle(i also had a 87 monte carlo ss and 86 firebird at the time i took turns driving daily),then traded that for a 69z28,then traded that for a 69 camaro yenko replica,then traded the replica back for my 69z28 when i noticed it for sale in town about 2 years after the first trade. One day when i had something go wrong that was cheap but annoying i realized that cards cost nothing once you have them and cars cost alot,especially the more you use them and i decided to sell the 69z28 and buy cards. I still have the 68 camaro and it still needs body work but besides attending about 5-6 shows a year i dont do much with the cars anymore.

I never stopped collecting cards the whole time even when i had very little to put towards them because of the cars,but i still look back and wonder how one day i just woke up and said im done with the old cars.Ive never regretted selling my z28,or trading any of the others,and i have no urge to buy another or fix my 68.

I am down to one toy car a ford product for a change. I had three toys, and no real car for decades, all chevys.
Well one was a GMC 3/4T p/u, a '49. But the others were chevys: a '66 chevelle and a '68 impala.

Now its more managable I drive a little ranger p/u and the toy is a '64 Mustang.
One goes up in value while the other depreciates.

Other than cards, I put clearly too much emphasis on the copper cents of the 18th century US Mint.
There are unbelievable variations there because each coin side had a uniquely tooled die it was made from.
That sounds a bit hohum, but really it is like back varieties on t206s (whatever those are).

Big 352 cu. in. V8 (big for the 1950's) T-BIRD engine that I can get my hands on, and
get down "dirty". No pollution control crap to clutter the engine compartment, electro-
mechanical ignition that is easy to access and easy to tune-up.

When you look under the hood, you can see the ground beneath the engine. It doesn't
get much better than this.....for someone who likes to get down to the "nitty-gritty".

awesome motor Ted! i love the V8s. my chevelle (pics above) came with a 142hp motor. i fixed that lol pushing 300 and up now, and barely put any money into the motor. i love how you can tune carbs and how easy it is to mantain the older cars. i'm a north american muscle car guy, dont like the imports at all other than the race bikes

Your "Golden Oldie" Chevelle V8 looks pretty impressive to me.

My 1960 T-Bird engine is stock.....when it was new it developed 300 bhp @ 4600 rpm.
It still has quite a bit of power....but, it's fun just cruising around in it.

My 1957 I have done quite a bit of "under-the-hood" work on. It has the bigger 312 V8
engine offered in '57.....that developes 245 bhp @ 4500 rpm. And has a 3-speed floorshift
with Overdrive. In overdrive, cruising at 65 mph, I get 20+ mpg.
I get that kind of mileage with this T-Bird since I overhaul its 4-barrel Holley carburetor.
I disassemble it into about 100 pieces and really clean it up every few years.

hey Ted,
Thank you. i have put alot of heart and soul into this car. 4:10 POSI air shocks, TH350 shift kit, 350 300+ hp, this car is a monster. I plan on rebuilding a 427 big block if i can find a good one for a good price. i have always loved the BB 427.
but eh body work also takes time and i'm looking for a cuda or challenger to restore. i;m only 21 and tend to do this as a hobby

Sorry it is not a car or bike. In addition to baseball cards, I also collect Tibetan Buddhist texts and painted scrolls. Could not fit the whole page on my scanner, so this is about half of one page. It is from a text called the 100,000 Songs of Milarepa. It is a collection of poems from one of the great masters of Tibetan Buddhist history.

Jason,
The text was composed about a thousand years ago, but this particular one is about 150 years old. The red says, "Namo guru..." which means, "Homage to my spiritual teacher..." The scribe probably put it in red ink to emphasize the importance of the spiritual teacher in progressing along the path. It is a collection of poems describing the author's enlightenment experience. I have not seen the 1000 year old original (if it still exists), but the author may well have written those words in red as well.

Just curious, guys.......what brand of rubber do you have on your "Wheels" ?

This might sound like a paid advertisement for Michelin....but, I don't intend
it to be.

In 1972, when I acquired the 1957 T-Bird, it had 4 brand new Michelin Radials
on it. Believe it or not, those very same tires are still on my car 34 years later.
There is still a lot of tread on them, no sign of dry rot, and no flat spots.

I've been sold on Michelin's ever since.

I have goodyear, all terrain, or all season or something like that.
90,000 miles on them, and I figure that they will make it through the winter. \
By that criteria they have performed well.

But is that the criteria of interest?

Seems to me that the harder the rubber, the longer they will last + the less traction you will get.
And the softer rubber will wear out faster and give you improved traction.

So which is better?

Traction or longevity?

Doesn't the cheapest tires give you the features of most benefit to you?
You have to change them more frequently, but how important is traction?

Or am I wrong?


And Barry: youve gotta love how the germans combine little
words into one great big one without comprimizing clarity.

Oh and Ted: Ya gotta like those old t-birds, they sort of look like Strike Eagles
from the back with their taillights and fins. But I always liked those Rivieras,
even tho I never owned one.
But thats ok, I always liked redheads too.

Gil,

You are right on about German. It continues to amaze me how synthetic
the language is, as it brings together so much, without sacrificing
clarity, as you said so well.
And there is something aesthetically pleasing about it,even euphonically
pleasing, no matter how many guttural elements are part of the synthesis.

Besides baseball cards, I try to collect ww2 medals, helmets, flags. I never win anything on ebay anymore. I only have a hand full of medals, 1 helmet and 1 flag. If i wasn't buying baseball cards, i'd buy that stuff. The only stuff thats worth money is the German stuuf, like: medals and helmets, uniforms flag etc. The military antique store i use to go to mainly sold German ww2 collectables, so it was hard to get a variety of helmets and medals. Although they seemed to have a medal for everything. I already have allied medals, badges and patches, so i was trying to collect some from the different countries that faught in the war, but only managed to win some German stuff. Damn ebay snipers !

Conversely, the Greek language loves "long words"......for example the Greek word
for "GREETING" is "KALOSORISATE".....the word for "HOTEL" is "XENOTHDOHIOU".....
"COUSIN" is "ECSADELPHIA".

my problem is that i collect WAY TOO MANY things...besides T206, WS Tix, Auto Balls, Sets, etc...i also collect Abstract Art, Sculpture, Vintage Industrial Objects (Old Tools, Gears, Bearings, etc), hats, small scale car models...TOO MUCH STUFF! and the worst of it all is that i live in a 350 SF apt. in NYC...too much clutter...
