I joined psa to get 22 cards graded, 1933 goudeys. i joined for two years to get the 12 cards graded and also another 10 cards graded.they did the 10 cards first , thinking the 10 cards where in o.k shape, 8 out of 10 got ex5 and 6's.great!the 12 free ones they did next which i thought where at least ex5's, only 4 out of 12 where ex5's the rest 3's and 4's.what the hell were they looking at!i picked the best cards to be included in the 12 bunch. sorry just wanted to vent. |

For all the times you guys make fun of PSA I have to say that one of the nicest people I have ever worked with in the hobby is Cosetta Robbins in PSA's registry group. She is the best of the best! |

could it be that psa gives lower grades to freebies in hopes that you will resubmit (and pay) for a regrade? |

If PSA were to manipulate free submissions, would they not "over grade" the cards in hopes of stimulating future paid submissions? |

I have noticed most people that complain about the cards being graded much lower then they expected missed some surface wrinkles or very minor paper loss on either the front or the back. also many first time submitters seem to overestimate the importance of eye appeal to the final grade (especially with psa). |

I don't know of anyone that hasn't been bitterly disappointed with their first submission to a grading company. |

for what its worth, I was only kidding in my post above (should have used a smiley). Unlike Jay B (hey Jay) Im really not a conspiracy theorist. In fact, Im an sgc guy, but I think Id be much happier with the grades if I sent my cards to psa. |

I've been pretty accurate in getting the grades I expected - 16 of 19 I predicted correctly, and I was a grade higher than they gave it on the other 3 ('33 Goudey PSA 3 I thought would be a 4, '61 Topps PSA 7 I thought would be an 8, and '70 Kelloggs PSA 8 I thought would be a 9. Most of my submissions have been 1940s and 1950s (5 from 1949 Leaf FB) cards. |

There is no doubt that there are some cards overgraded by PSA. It is also highly probable that the overgraded cards are more likely to be sold on ebay than the undergraded or fairly graded cards. Thus IMO, on a percentage basis, we see more overgraded PSA cards on ebay than the true percentage of overgraded cards. It doesn't excuse the major errors on some cards though. |

I would be switching it SGC to get it out of the floater, so it would not deter me. |
