It's best to think of it in terms of a pyramid -- Perfectly Mint cards will all look the same, but the further down the scale you get, the more reasons exist for a card to be a lesser grade. So, it stands to reason that all SGC 40/VG/3's will not look alike. In fact, many will be more pleasing to the eye than others upon first glance or in a scan, especially when an otherwise mint card has a back crease that is not noticeable from the front. Such a card would be graded a VG -- as would a card without any creases, but heavy wear on the corners and staining. Would those two cards look alike? No. But they are both VG 3. |
