It bugs me when I cant figure out what set a card is from. I rarely get stumped, but this one did it. It is 3" by 5" & blank back. Earl Whitehill played for Washington from 1933-36. As far as I know it is not a R313, R313A, R314. It has a similar design to a Homogenized Bond Bread card, but is larger and at least 11 years older. I had to BIN because it stumped me |

The Whitehill card is from the borderless subset of Goudey Wide Pens. The generally accepted ACC designation would be R314B-1 |

Thanks Tim, I am looking forward to the 2nd part of the R313/R314 "Pens" article. I read the first part in the 3D issue of Old Cardboard a couple times, lots of good info that made me more interested in the sets. I recently picked up a group of the Gold Metal Foods (Wheaties) cards. |
