Does anyone have any of these? I'm curious, as one would think that the checklist would include the same players as W575s. However, it seems that there are HUGE holes in the list. Is this due to the lack of examples being brought forth? |

The Holsum checklist when complete is going to be far different than any of the related sets. The Holsum cards checklist has just been started in last 2-3 years or so (thats why so few are checklisted) and there are quite a few cards not found in E121 D350-3, W575-1 etc. The known Holsom cards include a few Black Sox players like Joe Jackson, Cicotte, and Williams. The checklist is about 1/2 done, there should be 80 cards when finished. |

I have just started to get interested in Holsums. Lipset's encyclopedia says that D327 Holsum Bread (1921) photos come from E121 American Caramel (1921) and E135 Collins-McCarthy (1916). The photos for the two D327s I recently picked-up from a fellow board member (Leonard and Vaughn) come from E135--although there is a disparity between Leonard's uniform and the team caption in D327 since he was traded from the Red Sox to the Tigers between 1916 and 1921. The D327 set is supposed to include 80 subjects but I have heard that only about half have been catalogued. Assuming that is true (I have not verified), it seems surprising that D327 commons in VG list for only $65 on the Old Cardboard website. Perhaps, like many other vintage sets, D327 pricing suffers because the cards are so scarce that few collectors pursue the set. Anyway, I'm tickled to have my two crease-free EX examples. |

Here is a 1920 Holsum Bread Sisler. The 2005 SCD states that these are from 1920. Were they issued in 2 different years? OR has the SCD been updated to be 1921? |

The checklist in the SCD is incomplete and only 1/2 done is because it is new, it was just started in last couple years and not all cards have been verified yet. It should grow fast and be close to complete in next couple years/issues I would think. Not only Holsum cards but all the related sets have photos that are from E135 and E121, the E135 photos are the ones with the white backgrounds. The set was thought to be from 1920 for a while only because of the Black Sox players in the set. I cant remember exactly why it was changed back to 1921 but it must have been a player shown with a certain team that only makes in 1921 or later. We have posted about the Holsum cards many times in last couple years, Im sure there is more info from back then as well. Just waiting for the Holsum Buck Weaver to show up. |
