First, what you are saying is wrong. The percentage of cards with the factory named trimmed off the bottom is extremely small, nowhere near 20%. Second, it is very likely that the card was not miscut at the factory but trimmed later, perhaps by parents not wanting their children to see the cigarette ad. |

Thanks, Jay, I was citing information from a fellow collector. Thanks for setting me straight re: the % trimmed in this manner |

I always find it interesting that people think the names of compaies were trimmed off because they didn't want their kids exposed to tobacco related products. For some reason I highly doubt this since this is pretty much a recent phenomanon. More likely, the collector just wanted the picture or trimmed it down to make it fit whatever they were dispalying or storing the card in. |

Bob--Since it is most likely an altered card I wouldn't think that PSA or SGC would slab it. Such a trim should reduce the value by 50-75%. |

I don't think that any of the major grading companies would "intentionally" provide a numerical grade for an OJ with the ad trimmed off the bottom. I've seen one, I'm sure it was a mistake. I haven't seen any OJs encapsulated with an AUTHENTIC label with the ad trimeed off. This isn't to say that this couldn't happen. You'd have to check with the grading companies for their policy on this subject. |
