Hello everyone! Well I've started collecting pre-war cards last summer and finally got the final card for my T206 Minneapolis team set(my hometown) and wanted to know the best guide for prices for these cards. I'm starting to look at the Caramel, Old Judge and other less common releases and want to find a good guide to get me started. |

Not a price guide BUT this is needed if you want to get serious about collecting and learning, Encyclopedia of Baseball Cards by Lew Lipset. It has prices but they are from the 80s so they won't really help you. I would suggest the SCD aka the big book if you are looking for something for pricing a card or just looking at completed listings on ebay. |

I dont think there is a price guide that will actually help you much. The SCD is good for determining relative values (ie Card A is listed at $100 and card B is $200 - B is worth approx. 2x A). However, the prices themselves are very off when compared to actual sales. The best way to gauge the price of a card is to begin tracking sales of the card/set/etc on ebay and any of the many non-ebay auctions (links to the auction sites can be found on this site). You will eventually get a feel for pricing. If you have any questions about e93s, I may be able to help. |

Irv Young...I got a low grade card but it fills the spot. I bought the Jimmy Collins on eBay for $35 last summer real steal with no creases and nice corners. |

Sean - you sound like me - I wasted my middle school and high school years (mid 80s) buying topps/donruss/fleer junk and cards from the 50's and 60's. Never knew a thing about prewar cards. |
