Below are cards that were recently bought at an estate sale in Newton Kansas. The auction was talked about briefly not too many post down. Below are the cards that I bought there. The "Big Book" price guide does not have much info on these cards are even a checklist for that matter. I am curious if anyone out there knows much more about them besides what has been mentioned in the post about Pinkerton Cabinet cards that was read using the search function. Some of the cards that I have are not in the book and I'm curious to know whether that means that they are pretty rare to find or just not widely collected. Any help would be nice as now that i own one I find them rather nice looking card - despite their larger size. Mine vary in size. |

My scanner does not do the cards justice. and yes it was set to black and white - I should correct that |

You should repost with color scans. All the genuine ones I've ever seen were sepia. Of course, I've only personally examined 5 of them, three of which I own |

They look good on here. See what SGC says. A nice addition to the checklist if genuine and quite a nice pick up for the price if genuine. |

I have the Collins in B&W, not sepia. Also, the back is a scorecard. Is this the same set or another issue that were printed as scorecards? |

From what I have been able to gather. Pinkerton cards came in three varities. Blank Back - the most common, Postcard backs and then Scorecard backs - which are the rarest of the three. Not much on prices with any of them as I have not really been able to find many of these cards for sale. An ebay store - I forget who - has two Ty Cobbs, a scorecard back SGC 10 for $1,500 and a blank back for SGC 60 for $3,500. I may have these backwards. This is really all I can find on price for these cards. Have there been any that have sold at auction houses that anyone can bring forward? |

Most of these you see for sale are of common players and minor Hall of Famers. You have a nice find due to the star quality, in particular the Mathewson. I've seen perhaps one or two of the Mathewsons before ... Not so long ago, few people paid much attention to these cards, with many not sure they were vintage. They seem to have gotten their due lately ... The Cobb prices seem high, but I remember when you could get a common HOFer for cheap just a few years ago |

Thanks for the compliment. I have sent my cards in to SGC for grading. I called them and all they really said was, "yes, we have started to grade these cards." It would be nice to see recent sales of these cards to see how they have done in the past year or so. I have never held one before and this is one reason why i sent them in just to make sure that they were real. They look real enough, but you never know. I do not think that they are widely collected since I have not seen any for sale recently besides the ebay store. Either that or they are scarce enough that people are not selling what they have. |
