REA auction is going to have a huge hoard of Uzits in their Spring 2006 auction... including a Ty Cobb Uzit. |

I never say for sure until I see the invoice (one of many superstitions), but I was the high bidder on the big boxing lot. Yay. 16 Pet Ciggies (T224) cards; I can't wait to hold them in my greedy little hands. Well, not so little. But greedy. |

I believe REA has about 33 Uzits- including Cobb and other HOFers. I think it moves Lenox to the number two spot (not including Cobb back) and Uzit slips to three with the find. |

I used to have a list, but no longer have it. But REA had consigned to them for their Feb. '06 auction thirty-two different UZIT back T-206 cards. Given that there have probably been less than 32 different Uzits sold publically over the last 5 years - it is a huge population increase for this exceptionally rare back. |

The Cobb stip card did very well. The guy couldn't get a bid on it on ebay for 500 bucks and then it comes in Lew's and sells for 1k...amazing. shows the power of an auction house |

I did not see the Cobb strip card on ebay either. Regardless I would have paid more for the card than I did, whenever or wherever it was being sold. Had absolutely nothing to do with the power of the auction. I cannot possibly see everything that is on ebay but I will never miss anything that is contained in an auction catalog. |

I screwed and meant to bid on this small lot but was too late because I forgot that Arizona does not subscribe to daylight savings time -- meaning I never got my initial bid in... Anyway, enough whinning, If anyone here won it, I would be interested in significant parts of it and you may very well be able to turn a profit (I haven't checked the closing price). |

Brian, daylight savings time is over, so AZ is on the normal MST. (Just to confuse things, some Indian tribes follow federal standards and do go on daylight savings time.) |

BEEN FOLLOWING THE CHAT TONIGHT AND I WAS THE ONE WHO CONSIGNED THE TY COBB TO LEW. I PURCHASED THE CARD 6 YEARS AGO AND UNTIL THE AUCTION I HAD NEVER ATTEMPTED TO SELL IT. SO WHATEVER WAS ON EBAY WASN'T THAT CARD. I ALSO CONSIGNED THE JOE JACKSON CARD AND OTHERS. JUST WANTED TO CLARIFY THINGS. I HOPE THIS HELPS. |

This card is supposed to be from a notebook cover, candy box or poster according to SCD guide. After reading the post about how thin and fragile it is, that is hard to believe. Does anyone else wonder about the origin? Seem's like from a candy box or notebook cover it would be heavier material. Possibly from a poster, but I don't know about that either. |

Joe- That's an interesting point as it doesn't have the look of a strip card; it actually appeared to be a little more substantial than that but not having seen it in person, it's tough to tell the quality of the paper stock. It may have been cut from something other than a sheet of strip cards. The only way to know for sure is to find out where it came from, something that may not be possible. |

Barry, I was reading Marty's post up above and he said he went to Lew's and saw the card in person and it was very thin. That's what makes me think it is cut from something else. Maybe, probably will never know. |

The card was thinner than the W516- Cobbs that I had in another thread. It was heavier than Cracker Jack cards. It had the feel of construction paper. |

Over the years I have felt that while Drum was the rarest collectable back, Uzit and Lenox seemed to appear with about the same frequency, and that was the only reason I felt Uzit might slip a little; there's never been a Lenox hoard found. Admittedly, these 33 (or 32) Uzits might be bought by a collector and put away, so that the impact on the marketplace would be neglible. However, your contention that there might be 250 Drums and 400 Uzits circulating seems high to me. I would guess there are well under 100 Drums known. Anyone else have any idea of the surviving population of the rarest T206 backs? |

Jim- You know now that I reflect on it, less than 100 Drums would make them as rare as a Wagner. Maybe the number is closer to your estimate. I wonder if anyone has ever kept track of them? As a postscript, I remember about 15-20 years ago Jack Smalling was selling most of his T206 and he sent me photocopies of 25 Uzits he wanted to move as a group; most were NR MT, there were a couple of HOFers, and I think he wanted something like $600 for them all. I passed, because at the time I felt I could never move that many Uzits. Think it's too late to call him? Because REA's Uzits are the second hoard I know of is partly why I kicked them down a notch. |

Thanks Brian. Those numbers seem reasonable. I still feel I've seen more Uzit than Lenox over the years, but that's unscientific and over 23 years the memory doesn't always work as it should. |

Lot 89 was an heretofore uncataloged type of strip or candy-box card of Oscar Stanage. It sold for about $575 in terrible condition. I'm going to run a trial checklist in SCD soon, since Lew has graciously allowed us the use of his scan. I have four other verified players from the set. Reports with scans of any you might have are welcomed. |

Wasn't there a survey done in the past couple of years which analyzed the relative rarity of backs by surveying 10,000s of T206s? It may have been published in one of the last issues of VCBC. My things are mostly in boxes at the moment. Does this sound familiar to others? |

I remember one done on T206s. I can't remember if it was 1 of every 1500 or 15,000 T206s were Drums. Uzit was like 1 of 800 or 8000. |
