The card (or is it stamp in this case?) is too small for the holder (or the holder is too large for the card/stamp).

This seems unusual for SGC - for the strip cards, the holders seem to be tight around the card so it can't move around....but this holder seems like the card/stamp can move around relatively easily.

It looks better than the "Walmart" packing job by GAI, but not by much. Who ever referenced Walmart packaging in regard to GAI hit it dead on the head!

I agree - this holder, even with the problem of being too big - is still a ton better than the GAI holders referenced in the other thread. I'm just surprised because SGC seems to do a good job customizing the holder to the card.

I have never seen SGC slab anything that looks like that.

I want to buy it just to be able to send it back for them to reholder so that such an ugly looking thing is not on the market.

The problem isn't with SGC imo...their fee breakdown does indicate you have to pay a higher rate (i.e. 10 bucks), for custom fitted cards...I have to do this with much of my vintage boxing.

They do have a rather large list of cards on their website that need to be custom-fitted and submitted under the 10.00 per card fee. If you pay a lower rate of 7-8 dollars, they are probably grading it, but not taking the time to do the custom insert.

Of the cost, or issue, SGC shouldn't put a product out that looks like that. If they can't do it profitably then they should just say they don't grade these OR raise their price a buck or three......

Leon...I would have to disagree...the product SGC puts out doesn't belong to all of us, it belongs to a single customer. if the customer wants to pay a lower fee to put a card in an unfitted holder, resulting in an unattractive display, then give the customer want he/she wants, it's their card, not ours.

SGC makes it pretty clear the guidelines for getting your cards properly fitted...you get what you pay for.

it's a stamp. it's too thin for a custom fit slab, unless you want it sliding around and potentially getting damaged. hence the mylar bag and the larger insert.

We can respectfully agree to disagree on this issue. If I own a company I am not putting out a product that looks like that. I guess ya'll would. I wouldn't. It reflects poorly on the maker of the product, imo.......take care

It is the thinness that causes them to use the mylar. Stamps and paper thin issues like W513 tend to float around and could get dinged.



What I don't understand is why PSA doesn't use holders designed for stamp collectors when holdering stamps or thin issues (as used by its sister company PSE)- unless the dimensions don't match any existing holders, it would seem like the thing to do.

Similarly, I don't see why SGC won't use coin holders from its sister company when grading sports coins or pins.
