This thread is to give PROP'S to SGC. I recently purchased a Beckett graded BVG-4 T206 Ty Cobb green portrait and want to send it into SGC to slab the card in their holder using their crossover option. I see where they only allow you to send it in for review in one of their competitors holders without breaking it out, only if the card is valued below $500.00. Well the Cobb is definately valued more so I emailed Scott Hileman to see if there was some way we could work something out on doing so without me cracking it out prior to sending it in to be looked at by them. |

Howdy, I was just curious to know how SGC cracks open the other grading companies' slabs. What method do they use, etc. I'd be afraid to send them a card to crack if they are ''hammering lightly on the face' or using a 'jigsaw' as many collectors have suggested as possible methods..? |

The normal cost of this option with them if the card is under $500.00 would have been $5 bucks to crossover, and another $5 bucks to slab it. Wait would have been 5-7 days to get the card back. |

RC - SGC has crossed over numerous cards for me and never a problem. I dont know their method, but I suspect they have a safer way to do it than we do. I can also tell you from experience if they think that they may damage a card, they will not crack it out. |

Hi, Josh. Good to hear the cards made it back in good shape. I've submitted raw cards to SGC and truly think that they have the best holders. Still, I really would like to know what method they use to transfer the cards over at the SGC shop. I know those SGC graders must be reading this board, otherwise they wouldn't know to place US Caramel baseball in 1933 holders starting tommorow. GL |
