Little help, please ! re 19th Century team photos

Any help identifying these items would be very much appreciated. The first is "Chicago No. 16" on pretty thin stock. The back includes "Thompson & Dundy's Luna Park". The players and officers are identified as Halverson, Portmess, Bilger, Cline, Sandquist, Hughes, Beckert, McGowan, Brenton, Oschger, Bilger, Kading, Pierce, Goodwin, Zimmerman and Reed. I've done searches on all of the names and haven't come up with a thing.

The second is a Mineapolis team cabinet. Can't really provide any additional clues on it. TIA, Chuck

The first item looks like a fan that was probably given out at the Coney Island amusement park (Luna Park).


Also there was a Joseph Carl Oeschger That pitched in the majors from 1914-25. He was also born in Chicago.

The first one is the 1908 Chicago "Printers" team. Many of the major papers had very competitive teams that played around the country. The September 20, 1908 Washington Post shows one of the games with this team.

The second is the circa 1890 Minneapolis minor league team.

On the first one, it's not a fan, the backing is made to look like a glove. I think they were sold in sets, as the one I have has binding holes on the left. Does your's have binding holes? I think Runscott used to own one similiar to this at some point.

Thanks for the input: On the Minneapolis team..... did they have any players in that era that went on to bigger and better things?

On the Chicago team .... mine has no holes for binding. One of the pics is a "J.P. Oschger, Secretary" so probably not a player.

If I remember correctly, there were multiple Luna Parks (kind of like the Six Falgs of its day, I guess). Can anyone verify that? Finally, how can I get more info on the newspaper article/picture you referred to?

A few of the Minneapolis players bounced around between the NL, AA and minor leagues but no big names. The one I quickly recognize is Elmer Foster in the middle of the bottom row.

The newspaper article referring to the Chicago "Printers" team can be found through a newspaper search if you belong to Proquest or SABR.
