I thought I saw Bill Mastro in the Chicago airport last week boarding a flight to Buenos Aires - he was wearing dark sunglasses and I didn't recognize him until his mustache fell into his lap. |

I received my packages from Mastronet. All 11 of them arrived last week. However, I did a wire transfer to Mastronet, so there were no delays. Good luck. |

With the most recent update in banking laws last month (electronic clearance of checks - which is why most of you don't get cancelled checks back anymore), most banks will clear checks within 24-48 hours, even across major cities. Indeed, I have had checks clear in the SAME AFTERNOON that they were delivered. The bigger delays are not due to distance, but are due to whether or not your particular combination of banks have direct access to Fed wires and clearinghouses (i.e., major commercial banks will clear faster than remote savings and loans or credit unions, who rely on intermediary banks to handle their funds transfers). The ten-day rule ought be obsolete, but it will take some time before we all get used to the new quicker process. |

Checks clear faster but you still do not receive notice from the banks until a couple weeks later if a check you deposited bounced. If you deposit a check, the bank credits your account like the check is good. If it comes back NSF they debit that amount from your account as well as charge a fee to the depositor. All though checks can clear within a 48 hour period, the person who deposits the check still has no way of knowing it has cleared. Ideally it would be great if a bank would send these notices the day after, but they don't. |

My bank cleared the check on the 9th. With that said they must have received it on the 6th or 7th. I think waiting until the 23rd to send is a little ridiculous. |

All these big auction houses with their antiquated rules and policies. There's real opportunity for a business savvy collector to enter the auction business and show the dinosaurs how auctions should be run. Here's just a few things you can do to get them shaking in their boots. |

I used to send money orders but it didn't seem to have much effect. I see dealers breaking up lots on ebay days after auction end, and two weeks later I'm still waiting for my lots. |

Check cleared the bank on Nov 1st. Package came in yesterday. Maybe new people running the auction, under the "Mastro" name. The packaging was the Best I have ever seen. Not much bubble wrap and "Popcorn" (yea) and thick cardboard sandwich with the gems in the middle. Plus, the packing slip was there showing the lots won without the prices. My wife had no clue when she snooped in the box when I was taking the kids to school. |

I finally got mine yesterday and once they actually mailed it,it only took 2 days to get to me.Since it went to a different mailing address than the one i reside at,i have to wait a few more hours till i actually see what i got.I'll need security to keep the family and their greasy hands away from my mastro winnings. It will be like my own little christmas while everyone else is celebrating thanksgiving |

P.S. Spent two weeks in Pongo once on a surveying job. No offense meant to any Samoans on the board but no "Polynesian babes" are conjured up in my memories of the place. Now, Tahiti, there's another story . . . |
