The American Memory Collection has some fantastic vintage photographs and I found
this one c.1901 labelled: Chicago White Sox, American League Team (with dog in foreground.)

Well, This is definitely not the White Sox and the manager is definitely not Clark Griffith. Thanks, T.F.

right off the bat you see frank chance, topsy hartsell, johnny kling and a host of other identifible players. as to the specific event i don't know.

If that is Frank Chance then it must be an early Cubs team. Chicago Nationals and not Americans.

This is most likely the 1901 Chicago Orphans team--with Cupid Childs and Johnny Kling, which ones they are I am not sure.

The dude with the hat is probably manager Tom Loftus of Chicago-others are Chance, Hartsel and possibly Schaeffer
