Gary,

You said that it's tough on limited funds to amass much of a collection ... which feels true, but really isn't. First of all, if you decide on a couple things you like (T206 cubs, maybe, a couple HOFers you really admire) and focus your efforts on those, you can come up with a pretty nice collection on a budget. And (I speak as an expert here) you can get really great cards for not a lot of money if you don't have high condition standards.

Another thing to consider is that the market in fairly rare pre-war cards has gotten stronger almost continually for decades now. It may be frustrating to spend $50 or $100 every month or two and not feel like you're getting anywhere, especially when you hear about some of the other collections held by people on this board. But keep doing it for a few years, watch the prices go up, and you'll be surprised by what you've amassed.
