T206 Scarcity List

I was curious what the 20 toughest T206 are to find (dimissing the backs, and printing imperfections). Here is kind of my guess:

1. Doyle, NY Natl
2. Wagner,
3. Magie
4. Plank
5. O'Hara, St. Louis
6. Elberfeld, Wash.
7. Lundgren, Chicago
8. Browne, Wash.
9. F. Smith, Chicago & Boston
10. Dahlen, Brooklyn
11. Kleinow, Boston
12. - 19. the 150 only Series cards other than the other 2 already listed.
20. Unsure

I may have missed one or two but that's what I came up with.

The Kleinow (Boston) is nothing more than hype. I've seen several times when more than six of them have been on EBAY at once. However, finding a nice one without corner wear or creases may be difficult.

Not that well known but extremely tough are the T206 Rhoades Cleveland arm extended and the Lindeman in EXMT or better. If you don't believe me, try and find one!

I agree -- Demmitt, St. Louis right below O'Hara.

I would flip-flop Magie and Plank. For every Plank you see on eBay, there are at least 3-5 Magie's for sale.

Anyone remember when Plank had a price guide value of half of the Wagner (I think it was as late as the 1970s)? How about close to equal (I think it was as late as the 1950s)? I'd argue that the number of Plank cards and the number of Wagner cards are closer than many experts believe. The legend/supposed story behind the Wagner leads to its mystique and rarity.

Anyway, it was mentioned before on a prior post, but is this a list of "rarity" or "scarcity" (virtually the same thing except that scarcity involves a demand aspect whereas rarity does not involve demand)?

Nice idea for a list!

Of the cards listed, the top four scarcities are:

1. Wagner
2. Doyle, NY Nat'l (rarest)
3. Plank
4. Magie

The Ty Cobb back, if included, would be third (though second rarest).

Though an imperfect measure, probably the best way to determine scarcity is to look at auction and sale results ... As the Wagner sells for by far the most money (Doyle a close competitor in lower grade), it has to be listed as the scarcest, even if not the rarest.
