Has anybody heard any rumor as to who ended up with the 1869 Red Stockings Trophy Balls? I guess they went for a cool $411,000 which begs the question: Would you rather have this group of trophy balls or one famous homerun ball from, say, McGwire or Bond or Sosa? (Don't answer this as it is a rhetorical question...nobody visiting this site would have to think about this). |

the trophy balls........73 home runs will fall again (maybe) someday. You can go to Dick's sporting goods and buy the same ball for $10.99 of one of the current HR hitters. You have to get black and gold paint and the top of a grandfather clock to get the trophy balls......... |

Now that baseball will hopefully have the "Trophy Balls" to start testing players for this new steroid (THG)... |

Remember the "enforced according to the rule-book definition" strike zone? It was exciting thinking that fastballs at the letters would no longer be considered "high", and Glavine's outside pitches that didn't even nick the black would be considered balls. That lasted about 1/4 of one season as I remember. |

I would take the HR Baseball's. At least there is some provenance with them that makes them easier to resell. I hate to see what happends when somebody tries to resell the trophy balls. |

I certainly wouldn't want to be the lucky buyer with McGuire's 62nd HR ball.....(it was that one or his last one that brought the millions).....and is now worth thousands.....hmmm.....give me the clock with the painted balls |

The $411,000 a little rich for my blood, however there was another 1869 gold painted hollow metal ball w/ 1869 excellisor B.B.C. also painted on that I got for $711.00. Very nice - built an epay (not Ebay) base and mounted it. Even my wife likes it. |
