T-206 O'Hara/Demmitt and Drum questions.

Here are 2 T-206 questions that should solicit some opinions (I hope).

Question #1 -- We've seen in prior threads the estimates for the Drum back population (the high confirmed number I believe was 55). How about this -- any idea how many O'Hara, St. Louis cards exist (or Demmitt, St. Louis)?

Question #2 -- You win a contest allowing you to choose one of the following two cards: a T-206 O'Hara, St. Louis, or a T-206 common with a Drum back. Both cards are best described as being in "poor" condition, and are similarly poor (and not graded by PSA, SGC, etc. - I choose poor because that's what I'd likely be able to afford to pay for without the wife getting really upset). Which do you choose, and why?

Hi Mike

Answer #1 I would guess there are 200-300 of each(Demmitt & O'Hara.

Answer # 2 Take your choice, the Drum's are rarer, but in poor condition the value would be about the same.

If the Drum back is decent (legible) then I would go for it. They are extremely tough/expensive in any condition! Good luck.

either of the players. Just my preference. Of course, since all are beaters I'd just as soon take the same $$ and buy several nicer HOFers, so I guess I'd end up selling whatever I got.

I would take the money and buy the following:

1. A common Demmitt/O'Hara card
2. An eraser
3. A drum back.

When I was doing T206s a couple years ago, I bought a p-f Demmitt for a little more than half of what I sold a similar condition Drum back.

Thanks to all those who contributed to this thread.

Based on the responses, it looks like:

1) O'Hara and Demmitt each might have 200-300 copies in existence.

2) Given the choice between a poor condition Drum back common and a poor condition O'Hara, most would take the Drum. Some valued the Drum and O'Hara as even, while another placed a Demmitt at roughly half of a Drum.

Does anyone want to comment on my summary? Is this an accurate portrayal of these T-206 issues?

definetly the drum....each one is unique by itself, may not ever find another of that player...
