SGC mostly likely will not grading on site, so you will still have to send it in.

Not that it may or may not be beneficial, but I would try getting in touch before sending in and let them know you do not want it reslabbed if they are going to drop the grade. My thought is a cracked grade is better than a dropped grade. Just my $.02

I guess my only question is whether they really will be willing (and able) to be that flexible. I would be paranoid that step 1 would be cracking it out of the current case, and by the time they decide whether or not a downgrade is appropriate, it's too late to put that genie back in the bottle and go back to just the original cracked case. Most of my paranoia stems from the TPGs not being really responsive to customer requests, particularly when it disrupts the normal flow of the grading process. Or you could argue that they're not real responsive in general, which further proves the point.

This is exactly why I no longer grade anything. And too your point, my above suggestion may not be executable, or may get lost in translation , or just not cared about. Either way, its a gamble IMHO.

I literally just sent a card to be reholdered at SGC yesterday because the case was scratched up on back and front. I didn’t feel like waiting a month for it — it is an expensive card — so I paid $40 for 1-2 day service to be “reholdered” so it should come back with new case but original serial number which I provided for them….
