I must be the odd one out, I think this is the best move the As could have made. Watching games at the coliseum with 60 fans in attendance was just sad. The location in Oakland I hear was inconvenient and not the safest. (Can't comment on this at all, just what I've heard said before).

Going to Las Vegas and being able to see a major league game to me sounds like a great time. A fun addition to a great vacation spot. I honestly think the heavy traffic of vegas will bring in a ton of new fans, and even some new foreign ones as it is a very popular tourism spot. I can't imagine a scenario where the teams fan base doesn't at least double.

I feel sorry for the die hard fans who attended games live in Oakland, but I think for everybody else this is a positive in terms of fan base growth and live attendance.

The Las Vegas hockey team has averaged around 18,000 every season in an arena with a capacity of 17,500 so they seem to do ok. Of course, they're inside and cooler compared to an outdoor stadium in the summer.

From what I've read, the planned baseball stadium capacity is only going to be 33,000 but won't have a roof. The minor league stadium currently in Las Vegas seats close to 10,000 and also doesn't have a roof. They average a little under 7000 per game. I would think that the heat would be a deterrent, but if I was going to Las Vegas, I would definitely make time to go to a game if there was a major league team there. I'm not sure I would want to go to more than one, but maybe if you lived there, the heat wouldn't be as big a problem.

Speaking as a life-long Texan: Having known this heat all my life doesn't make me want to be outside amidst it any more than I otherwise would.

I agree. Plus, visitors to Vegas could first place a bet on the game, which would make it that much more fun to attend.

And potentially recoup the price of admission!

Exclamation

Now that they've all embraced Las Vegas and gambling as a source of revenue, I'm waiting for the really major league betting scandal to emerge. It's only a matter of time.

well since we're already two gambling scandals in over the last 12 months, that isn't really a bold take.
