New article about new problems in Las Vegas. Stadium now expected to exceed $2B.
Debacle in the desert: will the Athletics’ $1.75bn stadium on the Vegas Strip ever be built? | Athletics | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...er-mlb-debacle Sent from my SM-S926U using Tapatalk

The stadium in Sacramento used by the As is worse than the Yankees spring training stadium being used by the Rays this year. Fortunately both are in the AL so a World Series played in Sacramento and Tampa will not happen. Whew!

I think they should move back to Philadelphia.

Wow. What a black eye for major league baseball. You'd think they'd step in at some point and try to help... which would probably make it worse.
If the article teaches anything it's that you don't have to be smart to be a billionaire. Gives me hope! |

MLB taking over the Montreal Expos was a bit before my time, but at least they got Jeffrey Loria out of there.

Is a ballpark in Vegas even feasible? If you were to plan a trip there would attending a ballgame be high on your priority list?
I have never been there and have no desire to go, but don't people go to Las Vegas to gamble and see the shows? is there a large local population that would support this team? |

outdoor baseball in July in Vegas, as a fan I can't think of much I'd rather do less.

I must be the odd one out, I think this is the best move the As could have made. Watching games at the coliseum with 60 fans in attendance was just sad. The location in Oakland I hear was inconvenient and not the safest. (Can't comment on this at all, just what I've heard said before).
Going to Las Vegas and being able to see a major league game to me sounds like a great time. A fun addition to a great vacation spot. I honestly think the heavy traffic of vegas will bring in a ton of new fans, and even some new foreign ones as it is a very popular tourism spot. I can't imagine a scenario where the teams fan base doesn't at least double. I feel sorry for the die hard fans who attended games live in Oakland, but I think for everybody else this is a positive in terms of fan base growth and live attendance.

The Las Vegas hockey team has averaged around 18,000 every season in an arena with a capacity of 17,500 so they seem to do ok. Of course, they're inside and cooler compared to an outdoor stadium in the summer.
From what I've read, the planned baseball stadium capacity is only going to be 33,000 but won't have a roof. The minor league stadium currently in Las Vegas seats close to 10,000 and also doesn't have a roof. They average a little under 7000 per game. I would think that the heat would be a deterrent, but if I was going to Las Vegas, I would definitely make time to go to a game if there was a major league team there. I'm not sure I would want to go to more than one, but maybe if you lived there, the heat wouldn't be as big a problem. |
