I think my only problem is that I'm not convinced that I want to deal with the potential vagaries of the process. As I understand it, the process includes re-evaluating the card, which could include a downgrade.
They only re-evaluate the card if the case is cracked open or the damage to the case hurt the card.

What if the crack is sort of in the middleish part of the slab?

Could just be my paranoia, but it seems well within the realm of possibility that they would knock it down.

It is well deserved paranoia. I have personally had them do really silly stuff before on a reholder. They mislabeled one card twice and charged me both times they got the label wrong.

I would be wary, as I have posted over the years. I know this board refuses to believe damage to a slab can warrant a regrading, but it does happen.

It all depends on the placement and severity of the crack. I'm not worried about it.

Does it have to be something unintentional, like a crack or chip to the slab? Or can it be an intentional eyesore created by PSA… such as a crumpled baggie, tilted card or upside-down Colgans Chip?

When they don’t have the correct slab on hand to fit the card, they should re-holder it for free. Guessing they won’t do that, but is there any guarantee they won’t just do the same sloppy job of holdering?

I would be very leery of this as well, especially if you have a card with a compromised case that wouldn’t grade as high as it did when it was first graded.
