I went through one a decade ago -- at the time it was the hardest thing in my life and I couldn't envision coming out of it. I've lived my "best life" since, ever evolving, being my best for my new wife.

Default Curious - off topic - question about divorce

I’ve been married almost 19 years. I sold my first Mello Mint collection 9 years ago when she became pregnant with our son. She told me not to sell, that we would be okay, but it was the right thing to do at the time. She was very supportive of my favorite hobby then, and she’s been even more supportive since I got back in.

Currently enjoying our 39th year of marriage.

As we rapidly approach retirement things just keep getting better.

Separated 2004, after 7 years, divorced in 2007. Was mutual for the most part. Remarried 2008, and doing great. Sometimes things just happen. Still go to the same Church as the ex.

Happily married for 43 years. My wife is very supportive of my collecting habits. She never gave me the "it's me or your collection ultimatum" IF she did, i would miss her.

First marriage - moved out on 10th anniversary. Good person but financial poison. She is an attorney. I let her draft the separation agreement and file. It was fair for both.

Remarried in 2006. It was 18 years this past Thanksgiving.

I'm happily married and never divorced. We just celebrated 18 years last month. Best 18 years of my life! That's saying a lot because I grew up never wanting to be married. That was not even on my radar...until I met my wife. I knew the first day we met that she was the one and only.

I chuckled when I read this, because . . .

I have a friend who married and divorced the SAME WOMAN TWICE!

The indisputable definition of making the same mistake twice.

My Mom was married many many times. She got remarried to her 5th husband easily 30 years after they got divorced the first time. When I seen them I asked Mike "Didn't you get enough of that stupid the first time"? Yes I loved my Mom dearly but Mike was by far the best guy of her over dozen marriages and I hated to see him with her again. Second marriage lasted a couple years at most. Their first time was by far her longest with it being at least 5-6 years.

Married for 7 years, then divorced. Remarried and just celebrated our 32nd Wedding Anniversary. First time, I was young and stupid.

OT, but my girlfriend's mom's best friend was married to a man forever (and had a couple of kids), and then divorced him and eventually married his brother. My gawd!!!
Those family barbecues must be something else!!

Seriously? You realize it was posted merely for the humorous aspect of the situation, right, and not to delve into the sensibilities of the involved parties??

Married for 33 years, but now that the kids are out of the house....well...does anyone else think their wife is trying to kill them? I mean, it's not blatant like poisoning or anything. It's much more subtle. "Have another piece of pie, dear." "Look, I got you some Round Up to spray on those weeds." "You should get that motorcycle you've always wanted."

After all, what useful purpose do I serve anymore? She works; kids are gone; hell, I don't even cut my own grass anymore.

She used to make doctor's appointments for me all the time when the kids were little. I noticed I haven't been to a doctor in 2 years. She claims she just forgot. She buys me bourbon and pours me a glass when I get home - without even asking. She discourages me from exercising - tells me I look great.

My friend K. Married ten years. They had two small children. Her husband and kids are her life. Husband has an affair with a coworker. K finds out about the affair and files for divorce because he’s in love with his new gf. He’s fighting K tooth and nail because he needs his money for his new squeeze. In the middle of the divorce proceeding he places drugs in the son’s backpack when K had the children. Son goes to school, dad calls in a tip. Drugs are found in kids backpack and K gets charged. She had never done drugs. She gets arrested on felony drug charges. She had always worked and spends all of her savings fighting the charges. She’s an only child. Her parents adore her. They spend their savings and mortgage their home to defend her. After all their money is gone, K is found guilty of greatly reduced charges and one month in jail. It took her years to rebuild her life and feel secure again. She was shaken and riddled with anxiety, for years. She lost down to 90 lbs. and I thought she might not make it, all from stress. Today, her kids are in college and K is wonderful with a stable, successful career. Her children adore her.

Me: Married 14 years. We had a rough stretch with young kids....they suck the life out of you... but we worked through that and life is much better.

Now for juicy gossip. One of my first bosses divorced her husband to become a lesbian. She had 4 kids with her husband, if I remember correctly.

My wife babysat for a family. The wife left to help her cousin thru a medical hardship, fell in love with cousin, divorced her husband, and is now in a steady live-in relationship with cousin. Husband eventually remarried a woman with girls of her own. So he has a blended family, but I believe his kids are all grown up and out of the house.

Coming up on 30 years. When I am at a club doing a stand-up set and I announce how long I've been married, the women cheer and the men mutter "whoa, that's a long time." Tell me about it. If i'd killed her on our honeymoon, I'd already be on parole.

My parents were married 59 years. I think the last decade was out of spite. One wasn't going to give the other the satisfaction of surviving. They fought about everything. I once walked in on them fighting over who had the more expensive medication.

I like Kinison's line that if you've been married and end up in hell, you'll be bored. "Married twice, huh?", the Devil asks. "You want a job?"

Thanks, you've been a great audience. If you're gonna drive home drunk, watch for cops.

If you added all three together it would be a more impressive number.

As I like to tell people, “I’m not scared of commitment, I just make poor decisions.”
