Default 1975 NST/Japan Mr Baseball Nagashima Stamp Brooks Robinson

228 – 16 August 2024
Recently upgraded my 1975 Japan NST/Mr. Baseball Nagashima Stamp (#62) featuring Brooks Robinson in uniform with Earl Weaver and Nagashima. I had a PSA 3 but found this beautiful PSA 8 to match my other version but with Brooks in civilian attire and Japanese ceremonial clothing (#59). The two stamps I am showing are the highest graded. The Oriole stamps are from the visit or tour to Japan in 1971. This set is part of larger stamp set from Japan. This 288 stamp set called Mr. Baseball was issued to honor retiring Shigeo Nagashima.

Default 1975 Japan NST/Mr. Baseball Nagashima Stamps Boog Powell

229 – 17 Aug 2024
Yesterday I showed you the two Brooks Robinson stamps from the 1975 Japan NST/Mr. Baseball Nagashima Stamps. The 3rd Oriole from that set is featured today with Boog Powell #56. Not a high grade but I have never seen another.

Default Brooks Robinson Hit for Cycle Ticket and Program

230 – 18 August 2024
On July 15, 1960 Brooks Robinson hit for the cycle against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park. Brooks did this in front of 43,704 fans. Brooks went 5-5 leading the Orioles almost single handedly to a 5-2 victory. Brooks singled in the first. Brooks homered with bases empty in the 3rd inning. In the 5th inning he hit another single. In the 7th, he doubled. In the 9th, Baltimore led 3-2 and Brooks came to the plate with two men on and he hit his triple scoring two batters securing the win. Brooks ended the game with 5 hits, 1 run, and 3 RBIs. Brooks had a nice hitting streak going on with 9 straight games increasing his batting average from .264 to .296. Brooks was the first Oriole to hit for the cycle. Included today is a ticket stub from Brooks’ cycle game on July 15, 1960 and what I believe would be the program for the game, which is unscored.

Default 1961, 1963 and 1967 AS Pennants (Variations)

231 – 19 August 2024
I recently added some new All Star Pennants to my collection. The 1961 Green AS Pennant from Boston is a color variation; I have a blue version, too. The black 1963 AS Pennant is one that I have not seen before. The other one I have is a AL pennant from the Cleveland AS game. Finally, the Blue 1967 AS Pennant is a color variation. I have a green and purple one, too. I was fortunate to find these at the National back in July 2024.

Oddly enough, I just pulled one from a pack today

Default Brooks Robinson Type 1 Photo

Day 232 - 20 August 2024
Another addition from the National in July 2024 is a Type 1 graded photo of Brooks Robinson in the early 1960s. This photo is a Don Wingfield copy from the Sporting News. I really like the pose with the Hartzell Bird on the sleeve, the glove with #5 on it and the dark background.

Was fortunate to find these recently. At top is a tie bar and pin from the 1984 Oriole visit to Japan. I have not seen the tie bar. Below, is a 1966 World Series Championship Cuff Links. These are really cool.

Default Cal Ripken Batting Gloves

234 – 22 August 2024
Another find at the National was a pair of batting gloves worn by Cal Ripken in the 1990s. The gloves show some ware. The black and orange with “RIP-8” looks very nice displayed.

Day 235 – 23 August 2024
Today I am showing you a ticket from my “birthday.” Brooks had a pretty good game on my birthday 60 years ago today…Sunday, 23 August 1964. The Orioles played a double header against the White Sox in Chicago and lost the first game 3-1 with Brooks going 1 for 3 with a Run, RBI and BB. The scorecard shown is from game 1 as indicated at the top of the cover and scoring information. In the 2nd game the Orioles won 7-3. Brooks had 5 AB, 3 hit, 0 RBI, 2 Run and a BB. His average was .308 with an OPS of .859. This of course was Brooks’ MVP year.

Default 1974 Reading Hot Stovers Program

Day 236 – 24 August 2024
I found this program recently featuring a few signatures (Weaver, Bamberg, Blair, Al Oliver and Del Unswer. This program is from Reading, Pennsylvania at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel Ballroom on 22 Jan 74. The program has a nice photo of Weaver, Palmer and Blair but none of Brooks. As you can see, they had some big guests and speakers (Weaver, Palmer, Brooks, and Blair). I have seen some other programs out there similar to this celebrating the “Reading Hot Stovers.”

Charlie-

Believe it or not the Reading Hot Stovers are still going strong. Their banquet is held the third Thursday of January each year and they always bring in a few players to speak...

Bill Ripken was one of their speakers in 2023...

Default 1972 Reading Hot Stovers Program

237 – 25 August 2024
Today, I am showing you a program similar to yesterday. This one is from January 25, 1972 and features Joe Torre as the MVP and Jim Palmer. Also featured is Greg Luzinski. I really enjoy the shape of the program and the last page with various photos of the sites and people around Baltimore with the WS Win. Love the Large Flagtown U.S.A. sign.

Default Nick Markakis GU Jersey, Line Up Card and Ball

238 – 26 August 2024
On 22 May 2013 the Orioles played the Yankees at Camden Yards. Nick Markakis The Orioles won the game 6-3. Nick Markakis hit career homerun 121 and RBI 572. I was fortunate to find this game worn jersey, HR ball and lineup card. A lot of familiar names in the lineup to include Machado, Wieters, Hardy, Jones and Davis. The jersey is adorn with the Maryland and Weaver #4 patch. It has a lot of dirt on it but guess best not to clean.

Day 239 – 27 August 2024
I recently was looking at my advertisements and found this one featuring who I think is Brooks Robinson from 1972 (see bottom left). The advertisement is from Kraft featuring their candy with an offering for MLB and NHL team patches. The patch is 2 inches. For a dollar and 2 empty candy bags you would receive 5 patches. You could also get a jacket for $4.50.

Day 240 – 28 August 2024
This All Star Photo I believe is from 1971 based on Munson (#15) and Lolich (Detroit) in the photo. Brooks Robinson and Harmon Killebrew are also in the photo. I am not sure who the Red Sox player in the middle is but am thinking it is Luis Aparicio. Could be the Red Sox pitcher Siebert. Anyway, this is a very nice photo of two HoF (Brooks and Harmon) and two pretty good players (Munson and Lolich). If that is Aparicio, he was an amazing HoF player, too. Back to the photo, it looks like everyone is following Brooks (ha!). It looks like the game ended with the AL winning and everyone is congratulating Lolich as the pitcher winning the game.

Default Baltimore Orioles Memorial Stadium Upper 5 Section Sign

241 – 29 August 2024
I know many of you like the old Memorial Stadium Signs. This is one of my favorites that I may have shown before. The sign measures 4 feet by 21 inches. It is from the “Upper 5 Section.” It has a very large Brooks Robinson autograph. I put a 1966 AL Champions / WS pennant on it. This one is amazing and takes up a lot of space.

I really like the Memorial Stadium signs and especially if it has the #5 on it. The large Brooksie autograph on the piece looks very nice as well.

Default Brooks Robinson Photo

Day 243 – 31 August 2024
As a young boy growing up in Maryland I had this photo framed hanging on my wall. This photo is on a hard type of material measuring 14 x 10.5 inches. This is a photo of Brooks Roginson on the hot corner. I believe there are other versions. This is my 9th complete - consecutive month of posting. 4 months to go!

Charlie,

I didn’t have this on my wall when I was young; I had the SI poster of Brooks and Boog (possibly Frank or Cuellar; can't quite recall). My Brooks poster had so many holes in it from moving it around so often. You figure I’d be smart enough to use the same hole, but not what occurred.

The only other, think they call them arena cards, that I know of is where Brooks is making the throw across his body to first (possibly a bunt or something he had to charge).

Keep it going Charlie; so far so good!

Default Baltimore Orioles - Jim Palmer Jockey Poster

Day 244 – 1 September 2024
I recently found this poster of Jim Palmer with Jockey in his Underwear/Swimwear. Many of us older guys remember these cringe worthy advertisements of Palmer. This particular one is from 1983 and measures 17 x 14.5. And now…it is not hanging up on my wall but I thought it was fun finding it. I hope this is ok (the poster and my words). I do not want to offend anyone.

My friend was shopping during his lunch break in midtown Manhattan Macys or A&S and he saw Jim Palmer signing Jockey underwear photos. I am “ lucky “ enough to have a personalized “ To Scott.. Jim Palmer” photo.
It hangs out of site in my boiler room in my basement.

Charlie… Need to get that signed and displayed in a significant place (like over the fireplace).

Scott… So cool!

Come on, is no one gonna say it??

You should have had him sign the pic on the sweet spot of the...wait for it...balls.

Day 245 – 2 September 2024
Here is another small sign from the Sun back in July 1983 celebrating Brooks Robinson going to the Hall of Fame. The Sun in its two papers on July 28 and July 29, 1983 had a section dedicated to Brooks. I have this sign unframed (unsigned) and framed (signed). Would be ok with trading my unsigned copy for the right item(s).

Default Sun Advertisement with Boog Powell and Dave McNally

Day 246 – 3 September 2024
Another Baltimore Sun advertisement today featuring two of my favorite Orioles…Boog Powell and Dave McNally. Who can name the other two Orioles? Not sure what year this is; guessing the 1990s.

I’m not very good with the faces, but I’d guess Barber and Triandos.

hard to believe that Cal Ripken Jr, hit his 400th career HR 25 years ago (yesterday). I know I posted these probably back in 2020, but here is the commemorative official jersey he was presented during the pregame ceremony the next evening

Default Baltimore Sun Newspaper Advertisement with Bird

Day 247 – 4 September 2024
Here is another Baltimore Sun advertisement from both the Morning and Evening versions. The bird and newspaper is from 1979 but unsure the year this one comes from. I always loved yelling “Charge” when I was young with the music.
