That’s so weird and cool. A 3/4 size screen on a full-size pennant.

There’s a late 60s Cubs pennant with a cartoon cubbie head that is made like that …

Great pennant, Marc! Crazy how something never seen (to my knowledge) can surface. I wonder if Domer has any insight into that felt which is kind of “bumpy”?

Yeah, Rob, I know there are a number of Giants pennants that I have never seen for sale, but I at least have pictures of them (many from you). Something completely new was unexpected. I guess the last time that happened was with the last run Keezer pennant.

The seller told me that he pulled the pennant off of a garage wall at an estate sale in Palo Alto. It would not surprise me if it was made in and never left the Bay Area. There are tons of low- to mid-level quality San Francisco tourist pennants out there in the world and maybe some were made in SF? So there were local makers?

In some ways, having the "scene" to the left reminds me of the circa 1950 Trench champions pennants (see NY pennant below), although the art on the SF is not as good.

I don't know anything about bumpy felt.... But, I tend to agree that the style of this one resembles those pennants from the "insert ballpark name" series you point out, Marc.

Of note, here's a Cin'ti Reds one that just sold that is the proper 3/4 size at 8.5 x 26", which conveniently matches the typical dimensions of pennants from the above series--which I believe were all made by Trench.

That is crazy interesting to a pennant geek (me). Same graphics as Marc’s but made for a team 2000 miles away. I think Greg is correct in that it’s a 3/4 graphic on a full sized pennant.

I agree. It does look like a 3/4 design that, for whatever reason, was printed on a bigger size piece of felt.

Which is something we discussed a few months ago concerning the "insert ballpark name" series; at least ... when it came to Giants pennants.

These two likely came from '51 or '54. The top is is 3/4. The bottom is full size. Identical graphics down to the size of the printed space. Different size felt.

I suspect the vendor just wanted to offer multiple sizes to their customers; and the maker just wasn't willing to enlarge their screen for such a limited pennant run??

That's really interesting to see the same scene/design on a pennant for a different team. Probably rules out a local maker unless the local maker was making pennants (copying Trench) for the Giants and visiting teams.

Mark or anyone else- you mention that the Reds pennant is a seldom seen variation. Is there a more common Reds that fits with the "insert ballpark" style?

I just can’t come to accept that the same company (Trench) produced these two pennants in the same year … still think that the “baseball scene” pennants are from a yet to be identified company …

My "seldom-seen" comment above actually pertained to the rare White Sox 3/4 pennant.

But that Reds 3/4 is also quite scarce. There's one that's a bit more common with a similar game scene depicted. But that one says "Crosley Field" within the graphics... matching the "Polo Grounds" and "Shibe Park" examples posted above.

The somewhat generic graphics on the Reds pennant shown above are often found on Phillies Pennants in particular.
