Pete, do you remember that 30 ticket lottery that Howard was running earlier this year for the complete M116 set?
I think tickets were 1300 each and we couldn't fill the spots. A fella could have had the whole set for under 40K, and from memory the Wagner and Cobb were really nice cards.

Indeed. My spider sense rarely trusts these sudden exponential price surges. If I could trade my Wagner for the right variation B 311, I would not look back.

I don't know, the way these cards have skyrocketed, taking a massive profit might not be an unreasonable "i" strategy. I bet there are a lot of collectors who'd wished they dumped their MJ rookies when the market was red-hot. That said, I think we are still on the rise with the Wagner. If I had one, I might be tempted to carry it another round or two, but I would most likely set an exit price and get out when it hits.

Sorry for the lingo, isn't everyone Matty C? The second version of the 52T Mantle, #311.

Default Wagner

It is an interesting dynamic for sure - Understanding that certain players' legacies have taken on a life of their own - I paid somewhere around 1/40th of the prices being discussed recently for this one.

Blue M116 SGC 5.5 just closed at 60 plus BP. The ML PSA 3 at 50+ maybe not looking like such a deal now.

More properly compared, the SGC 5.5 sold for $72k last night vs the PSA 3’s $53k+ in September. I feel both were correctly graded, or at least, neither was particularly better or worse on eye appeal for the grade. I think $72k is a very strong number. But I agree that $53k may have been a little too strong.

Completely agree. I'd wager (a pittance) a few people are bidding up some of these cards looking for the greater fool. Time will tell, but as soon as a regular person goes to sell theirs, the prices don't seem as strong. Likely to be in Goldins next auction, and the one after that, and the one after that. Recently I checked a card history and it's been sold via auction 4 times in the past 2 years, 3 times via Goldin

Love the comments. The 5.5 centering wasnt that great. 72k respectful. Look at the 1.5 pastel on heritage. Will go for over 20k. Wagz running strong

They have an estimate of 5K. Great minds think alike.

Default Wagners

Wagners are still going strong. The E90-2 SGC 2 in Memory Lane last night went way higher than I thought it would. Price is almost double what it sold for in Nov 2022. I'd say a 100% increase in 14 months is a good rate of return.

Think the E90-2 and Tip Top cards which have been on a roll. I would love the Sporting Life Wagner but it is now out of my range at current auction levels.
The only Wags cards held at the moment are his E92 Dockman, E95 and a trimmed, autographed Goudey Premium.
I have always found it interesting that the Ruth '48 Leaf sells for big bucks while Hans is very reasonable, if not cheap. Obviously, both are long past their playing days.
My Wags grail card is his E94.
