Regarding post WWII vintage, I have no doubt that Mantle, Mays, Robinson, Aaron, key 1952 topps cards, etc fit into the blue chip discussion as well. I just don’t play in that playground much and don’t know if the fact that these cards tend to be more available/common compared to cards from before 1940 makes a difference.
Call me crazy, but isn’t this auction exclusively for pre-war items?

For pre-war items to be at the top of the list when they are the only ones on the list, well, the probability of such a result does seem to be strong.

Default Blue Chip

People are quick to use top tier “HOF” members as a reference to cover a swath of the great names…IMO, a few well known issues / cards featuring Joe Jackson are / should be considered at the blue chip level…despite his unfortunate HOF status.

I am referring to the players and the specific prewar sets, not prewar in general. I feel that was pretty obvious

Apparently I was oblivious to just how obvious it was.

Default Color me a "BLUE chip"....my favorite color is BLUE

First TOPPS Mantle (greenish BLUE) ............................................ last TOPPS Mantle (with very rare BLUE background)

------

My favorite 19th Century card

Star card of my "complete" SWEET CAPORAL Factory #30 set (468 cards)

My favorite T206 with a very rare back

.

A unique T206 John McGraw

I could not find a BLUE card of Babe Ruth, so I improvised........

Stan the Man (1949 BOWMAN and 1949 LEAF)

------

And finally....there is BLUE....and there is no BLUE

I thought this thread needed some humor
