Leon/Jay -
Climax is typical. They definitely did contain that language. - Jon

Here are 2 different styles of the Climax language that appeared inside the Old Judge boxes.
The one for sale on eBay is legit and appears as it should. It is a bit pricey, however, even with the baseball notice.

Jon is correct, a small add . . .
Whiting Box Company acquired the Climax Box Company in 1885. The reference to "Climax" has nothing to do with the tobacco company but instead the Climax Cigarette Box company. Early Old Judge pack slides note "Cigarette Boxes, Patented . . ." while at some point in late 1887 or early 1888 they changed to "CLIMAX CIGARETTE BOX Patented . . ." Here is another image from packs with decent text clarity. I like the 1888 packs, those dating before November feature the "Base Ball Notice". Joe's example is nice, the starting bid would set a record price but wish him luck, glad I already have an 1888 example.

I guess I was remembering the inner portion of the slide.Either way, it is not the Climax Tobacco Company.

Thanks for the info Jon and Joe. I changed the title of the thread and a word in the text to reflect Cigarette instead of Tobacco. Thanks for the clarification...
Here's an Old Judge card because every thread needs a card... ![]() .

Hello Gentlemen!
Thanks for the further insight on this Old Judge pack. The years of research guys like Joe G. and others have completed never disappoints! This is my pack and willing to let it go to a good home. I have a number in my head which I’d be okay with. The fees on ebay make that tough sometimes. But that is a decent platform for exposure sometimes. If anyone has serious consideration for it, please feel free to DM me on here or ebay. I have received several serious interest in it over this past week. Hope all of you are staying healthy and doing well! ~Joe |
