The closest I've seen is the Dallas Texans Cotton Bowl pennant, but no AFL logo on that one. And the New York Jets Shea Stadium which was just post merger and has the NFL logo on it.

Exciting stuff is becoming fewer and farther between and as a result I've developed an appreciation for extremely rare modern stuff (80's-90's). Believe it or not, there is some cool stuff out there. Very under appreciated in my opinion. Don't know if it will ever take off from a value perspective, but does keep me interested when the vintage well runs dry.

This pretty much represents the best of my 2021 vintage efforts...The Eagles is particularly intriguing to me as it's black and includes tassels. I've never seen that pennant in any other color and it's always tassel-less.

Whoa! Some amazing stuff here!

I’ve never seen the Giants ACFL pennant! And the 58 Giants and Super Bowl pennants are phenomenal!

Top notch

No idea but I've been waiting for a case of them to be discovered in a New Orleans warehouse since I got it. So far so good. It's interesting though that there are SB II and SB IV pennants that list both teams. Is SB III out there somewhere?

That SB4 pennant is really tough. Being in MN I have bought and sold just about every Vikings and Twins pennant around, but I’ve never had that one. I’ve only seen it a few times over the years.

The rest of those pennants are really nice. That’s some quality stuff.

I've put the photo back in the Pirates Pennant and this is what it looks like after a clean. I'm pretty pleased.

I also picked up a Phillies "Atomic Cap" pennant in a misc lot. It was pretty badly discolored and it cost me next to nothing. So I decided to experiment with different approaches.

First I soaked it in Oxiclean for a couple of hours. That made it better but not much. So I soaked it in Oxiclean again and left it overnight. That was my mistake. The red dye in the graphics started to disolve because I left it soaking too long. After all of that, discolored white areas still weren't great.

At this point, the graphics were damaged so I decided to try bleach to see what it would do. That worked great on the white body of the pennant. I suspect if I started with bleach, it would have ended up perfect.

My lessons:
  • Oxiclean works well but only use if for short amounts of time (e.g. an hour or two at most)
  • If using Oxiclean, what for any bleeding of the graphics. As you as you see that, take it out and stop.
  • Bleach on white pennants, can't be beat.

Is the Phillies pennant stiff or soft?

The lessons I've learned:

* Oxiclean only works on the newer, stiff white pennants. It doesn't do much on the softer felt ones.
* Bleach works great on some older white pennants but I had a disaster on one with red graphics.
* Oxyclean can improve older, colored pennants but it's not usually a huge improvement.

Another lesson is I just learned is I can't figure out how to format bullet points!

I'm extremely happy to have picked up this three quarter size "batter and bridge' pennant. The full size versions are extremely common. There are probably 10-20 for sale on ebay at any given time. This is the first 3/4 I've ever seen. I have a similar 3/4, but it is not an exact replica of the full size. It's interesting that I've never seen one of these - the silk screen would have had to have been completely different i.e. they didn't just print full size graphics on a smaller pennant. It also appears this one never had color, other than the shoes. I've looked at it closely and I don't think it's a case of the color just fading out. BTW - do we know who made these left handed batter pennants?

I just noticed, too, that the "F" used on the 3/4's is a "hybrid" of the F's used on the full sized versions. The minutiae never ends!

Nice pickup. I have a reverse find.

I picked up this 1940s Tigers Pennant. It's a little faded in a few spots but I've not come across it before. Mike Egner's book only shows a 3/4 version of this pennant. Anyone else have or come across a full size version?

Red is always going to be an adventure. Sometimes it runs immediately. Sometimes it takes a while. Sometimes it holds up fine. I suspect your Phillies would've had problems even if you had gone with bleach. The bleeding red is manageable though. Just keep soaking/rinsing it with plain water until the running stops. I've never had one that didn't stop running and the bleed usually rinses away completely if you stay on top of it.

Using Oxyclean with red graphics, 30 minutes is my limit. I find most of the improvement occurs within that time any way. For dirtier, non-red pennants I may leave in a little longer. I did do an overnight on an old 70s Bengals pennant (white pennant with orange/black graphics) to see what would happen and the graphics faded pretty badly.

That was by far the cheapest of the bunch and it might be my favorite pick up of the year. From a cost/utils of pleasure perspective its off the charts. Would love to find more ACFL, Continental or UFL. There were over 100 minor league teams in the 1960s, but you only see pennants for the same handful of teams...Pottstown Firebirds, Wheeling Ironmen, Eugene Bombers, Philadelphia Bull Dogs and maybe a few others.

Great stuff, Rob. Mt favorite is the "Brownies."
