from info I found
If u look at info provided by keyman collectibles Umpire James Johnstone patented this style mask in 1921 and pictures are provided of masks from various manufacturers in their catalogues this one looks identical to the mask in the 1927 reach catalogue although looks like could be one in the 1922 spalding catalogue as well based on this info and the johnstone imprint and pat pending imprint I think more likely 1920's and not 1940's and of course they made the same mask for many years so this one could of been made into the 40's but judging by wear and how the leather looks etc I would say 20's
