Chuck Klein: ... a bit of a stretch here, but this 1943 M114 Magazine Premium of Musial is the same image as his 1946-47 Propagandas Montiel "rookie": ... Hal Newhouser: ... Brooks Robinson: ... Arky Vaughan: ... Teddy Ballgame (the '59 Fleer is not mine, but the c1936 photo that was cut-out and then pasted to white cardboard stock is!!): ...

That is such a great photo and a great card for so many reasons. One of the biggest for me, is that it features a father and son - who would later lose his life during WWII. Many contribute Billy, Jr.'s death as a factor to Billy, Sr. I cant imagine, but this is perhaps my all time favorite photo. Thanks for sharing.

William Hargrave , "Bill" for short.....
...but henceforth to be forever known as "Pinkey" in the annals of baseball card history.........he actually has a second card in the Worch set , an action pose of catching a pop-up and they spelled his name "Pinky" on that one ...this card is a PSA 1 ''Tech Grade'' due to a single pinhole low down on the left , next to the tiny "PHOTO BY MPLS JOURNAL" .. .. |

I agree with Topcat's appreciation of the Southworth picture. I had not seen that picture. I'm glad Southworth Sr made his way in the Hall. Southworth Jr died in a training flight, piloting a B-29. He had already completed 25 missions as a bomber pilot earlier in WW II having earned a Distinguished Flying Cross. Jr played baseball at Ohio State, and had played in the Cardinals' minor league system.
Now about that Roy Ellam RPPC, I've not ever seen one of those, Thanks for posting that. So Roy played a tiny bit for Cincy at Pittsburg. And when the white border cards came out Roy had not ever played for Nashville. But a few years afterwards he did sign with the Nashville Vols and played there several years. Maybe someone with American Litho had a premonition... Or someone with the Southern Association was inclined to deem that white border card a prophecy. Who knows? Thank you all! |

Nice thread - great images and cards , everyone!
The producers clearly did what they needed to with the uniforms on these... I don't collect or own the images. -- Mike
