Always been a set collector, but I definitely target certain boxers first, usually the ones I think are undervalued in the way I tend to value athletes based on how they performed instead of other factors. Guys like Jeffries, Ketchel, Fitzsimmons that are only slightly over a common or commons, and true commons like Packey McFarland that were great talents. I have a strange obsession with Johnny Frayne because his T220 Silver Border is my favorite boxing card.
Going with your Sullivan theme, I'll leave a not rare Sullivan cabinet I recently picked up after re-reading Michael Isenberg's biography of him. There's a Corbett that looks just like this and also labels him "champion of the world", so I presume this is mid-late 1890's, but I'm not very knowledgeable on sport Cabinets and CDV's. |
