This signature with the loop 'd " into the "w" and the broad stroke "k" in Chadwick is the more common and favored version of his signature. Like most signature variations I've never heard of an explanation for the striking differences in his signature in the example in picture 2 on the right except that it was a more " printed " format than his formal script.
