I started collecting as a kid in 82 and can clearly remember trading cards in school and ripping wax. By 85 I found my dads 1950s cards and was hooked on vintage. The only way I was able to get vintage was trading, yard sales, and thrift stores. By 87, I was buying sets thru mail and still ripping wax. Buying individual cards just wasn't happening, as a kid just didnt have the money. Finding a valuable card was all about what you had in your collection from previous years, Card shops seemed to pop up overnight. I remember drooling looking at cards in glass cases but thankful for what I had already
