I was shut out but there were a couple of lots that I had my eye on for information purposes.

839 - the autographed Ted Williams rookie had an opening bid of $500 (me!) and sold for $19,500. It was only Authentic and the card didn't have a number grade but it was a very sharp looking card. Given the starting bid, I was surprised that it sold for nearly 40x the opening bid.

1158 was the 1956 Topps set that had all 342 cards in PSA 6 holders. It started at $2500 and eventually sold for $11,000. It spend several days in the $3,000-$4,000 range. The grading alone even at $7 a card was well over $2,000. I have all of the HOFers, both checklists and several other cards at least PSA 6 so I was interested in this one for value as, obviously, the HOFers drive most of the cost. It really made a late run.

Maybe it was me, but I didn't see anything resembling a deal in the stuff that I was looking at. Lot 2263 was '71 & '72 topps basketball sets that I was interested in. When I read the description further, it said that there was writing on 70% of the card backs and it still went for $1350 before buyer's premium.

When the auction started, I wondered if there would be softness as people would be hoarding cash to get through this crisis. Apparently, there are very wealthy collectors who are impervious to the challenges gripping the world.
