49 Bowman Satchel Paige or 49 Leaf Jackie Robinson. For that budget, probably a pretty low grade version of either is all I could afford...

1952 Bowman Mantle in EX condition. Then with any money left over I’d probably start my 1955 Topps set (maybe get a nice Jackie Robinson).

A 1952 Topps Eddie Mathews, without question.

I don't know that it would be enough money to get one, but I would buy a 1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams. I've wanted one of those since I was a kid.

A signed 1953 Topps Vern Stephens. He’s sort of the forgotten man of the late 1940s-early 1950s Red Sox teams, and I think if he had a couple more good years he would’ve made it to Cooperstown.

I'd pick up the nicest signed Mantle I could in that range, ideally a 53 bowman or topps, or a 56. I'd gladly take a 51 or 52 if anyone wants to sell one for 4k.
If it was any 48 or later I'd get a 90 Thomas no name on front.

Three of the 5 cards I would like to have from the 50s would unfortunately go for much more than the allowed amount...the unissued 55 Current All Stars of Roberts, Konstanty and Stankey. I still need two of the 55 Topps baseball Hocus Focus cards that together might be had for under that figure, but I have yet to see either of them come up

This would be my choice also. Tough to find a 1954 Wilson Frank's Ted Williams in descent condition and reasonable price.
