Clint, where did you get the bronze from? Is it a repro of the original? I know at one time Doug Allen was going to make a recast and sell them again but, I was unaware if he actually went through with it or not? Incidentally, mine come from the original owner who was given the statue by Walter Johnson himself.

Yeah Allen did a recast and I got mine from his wife. They were supposed to do 100 but mine is the last I know was made at this point. It's number seven. The licensing time frame ran out so not sure if anymore will be made.

To my knowledge, only two of these have ever hit the market, one in Legendary in 2012 and Memory Lane in 2013. The Legendary example appeared again in 2015, this time with Heritage. For some reason, Legendary ended up buying back their example from the consignor, Kent Feddeman, and Doug Allen wanted to defray the expense of that by selling bronze examples. Events intervened (!), though, and the program never got beyond the production of a handful that his wife sold on eBay two years ago, after which the original went to auction with Heritage. Bob, do you know if yours is the Feddeman (Legendary/Heritage) example? If so it should have come with an original photo of Johnson posing for Dunbar with a caption written by Johnson's wife.

Hank, thanks for the information, I was not sure about the details of the "new" statues and I appreciate you filling in the blanks.

I believe mine is fresh to the market as its been with the original owner for 60 or 70 years. It was actually a gift from Walter Johnson to a friend and was passed down from the friend to his daughter etc.

Bob is that the actual picture of your statue? Hank, did all of the original statues that you’ve seen have the W colored red on the hat?

No it is not, here is my actual statue, it does not have a red “W”
