Figured out that Overall throwing was Wiltse's neighbor on Sweet Cap 350-460 Factory 42 OP. The yellow, shoulder (including the blue layer), and belt all seem to make this one a lock.

Oh do I wish my mother had taught me to use a scanner because I have an interesting E card of E. Meusel, a E126 with a perfect complete ghost image of the obverse just a little fuzzy and, of course, reversed. I know E126's aren't T206's but in harmony with this thread thought I would mention it. And, remembering that New Year's and the inevitable resolutions aren't that far away, I will get a scan up of this unusual and perhaps unique card by 1/1/16. I got it recently on Ebay and it is graded SGC vg/ex. Now does anybody collect the Meusel bros. cards. It might be for sale. John

It has been some time since this thread was on the main page, so why not let Mr Burns kick it back to the top. For the T206 printing guys, this is interesting because it appears to show a that there may have been 2 green layers on this card. There is a misregistration of the green and the red on the front and what looks like a weak roller transfer of the yellow layer on the back. Also, for Johnny, some nice fat, clearly hand-cut borders.

Red ink was usually last applied in the 6-color printing process of the T206's....and, this M. Brown card is certainly evidence of this.

I picked up this Willett. This is the seventh different one that I know of
so there must have been quite a few sheets printed with whatever caused the damage. Last edited by Pat R; 09-20-2016 at 12:34 PM. |

It's actually a nail. And those are very cool cards, because they're proof the set was printed on a flatbed press that was printing from stones. I think I had a pretty involved post about it a while ago. It may have been a PM.

I'm bumping this thread with a recent impulse pickup that I made. I can't tell if this Dougherty portrait is a card that was trimmed after it was distributed or if it was hand cut from a sheet and pulled aside before it ever got packaged (i.e. scrap).
Under a loupe, the edges all appear to have older wear consistent with other T206's that I have, so it says to me that the cutting was done long ago. The height and width dimensions on this card are 2-5/8"x1-1/2", not too far off from what a "standard" T206 should be (2-5/8"x1-7/16"). It does seem to be missing the red coloring on his cheeks and lips when I compare it to my other Dougherty portrait examples though. What do you guys think? Thanks!

It wouldn't be Murray since he's a print group 4 subject and Casey is print

Speaking of Dougherty, I had heard that some collectors really liked the lavender background, which mystified me, because my example always looked grayish to me. I eventually got one of the Topps cards that had the nice lavender color. My older Piedmont does look to be somewhat similarly colored to the one shown previously in this thread.

Miscut Wallace - For the Overall, would this be just a Sweet Cap bleeding onto the front over time, given it's a PB back or a WST?
I assume it's the former, but is one of my more peculiar cards and would like to hear thoughts on it. Great cards guys! - Bill |
