Tom, those pieces are amazing! They should be in a public museum. They are exactly like League of Our Own (great movie). Really awesome. (I see now these were posted months ago, but I am glad someone brought the thread back up, because i missed them the first time and am glad IO could comment the 2nd time around)

Except he only showed us postcards. I mean, c’mon!
Kevin - is your Weiser Wonder THE Postcard with the 1907 date stamp on back? Regardless, your example is just perfect IMO!!

There is one CDV in there! Yes, my Walter Johnson RPPC is the one with the 1907 postmark. Note that front of the postcard does not say "Weiser Wonder" on it. I do not think that he was known by that nickname until he played for the Senators.

Kevin..wow. That's certainly a mic drop post. I'm embarrassed to follow that. I lack focus so my collection has many different tentacles. Nonetheless my favorite items relate to my childhood obsession with the 1971 Pirates. These are not my most valuable items but they certainly make me smile which is why we all chase the items in our collections.
I have owned this signed Roberto Clemente Night Poster for more than thirty years. When I bought it I was earning around $8.00 an hour. My new bride didn’t blink when I dropped more than a week’s salary on it. It was then I knew she was a keeper. The Roberto Clemente Memorial Pennant was a recent pick up. I find it to be a poignant reminder of that day and the emotions I experienced when I learned of his death. In the top of the 8th inning of Game 7 Jose Pagan's double into the gap off of Mike Cuellar drove in Stargell with what proved to be the winning run. I could never prove this was the bat he used but it is fun to consider that possibility. The team issued 1971 World Champion jewelry reminds me that I don’t own a ring . Willie Stargell and Roberto Clemente were my technicolor version of my Father’s Mantle and Maris. Whenever I hear Santana’s Soul Sacrifice I think of them. Because of that these coin banks are always displayed together. Finally the 1971 National League Pennant which hung at Three Rivers Stadium during the World Series is my favorite item. It is far too large to frame or display in my home. My wife jokingly calls it my burial shroud. At least I think she is joking...

I hadn’t noticed that, but now it makes this postcard even cooler!! Dare I say that this might be the greatest/most amazing postcard in the entire hobby?

Unbelievably great items, everyone. Sensory overload.
Being a lifelong Seattle resident, and avid Seattle collector, I thought I'd show five....okay seven.... of my favorite Seattle baseball items. 1. 1890 leather encased season pass. This was the first professional team in Seattle, the "Seattles" of the Pacific Northwest League. The pass was issued to Samuel Crawford, who was a founder of the first real organized baseball team in Seattle, the 1870s Seattle Alkis. 2. 1903 Seattle Siwashes, cabinet photo, Pacific Coast League. First year of the PCL. 3. 1907 Seattle Siwashes Northwestern League program cover. Love the graphics on this one. 4. 1909 Seattle Turks, Northwestern League championship watch fob. First professional baseball championship team in Seattle. 5. 1939 Seattle Rainiers championship ring. First pennant for the Rainiers, and first of three consecutive. 6. Sculpted plaque of legendary Seattle Rainiers and PCL manager Jack Lelivelt by famed local sculptor Alonzo Victor Lewis. Was displayed at Sicks Stadium, along with plaques of Emil Sick and DE Dugdale. 7. Actual second base from Sicks Stadium, painted by Seattle PI Artist Stu Moldrem, and presented to Tommy Harper on Tommy Harper night in August, 1969. |
