Today NPR played a nice feature about Deacon White, The Civil War and the HOF. It is part of their Sunday morning sports programming. It will replay another time or two this AM and then go to "Archives". I will post a link, later in the day, when my tech guy gets home. With 9 OJ cards this seemed like the correct place to post....if not please move.

Thanks for the heads-up, Dennis, and for posting the link, Joe. It was a good interview. I love hearing (or reading) from people who knew personally baseball players from the 19th century.
I was very friendly with Ed Weyhing, the nephew of Gus and John Weyhing. Ed would visit Gus regularly when they were both living in Louisville. He had some great stories about those visits. Unfortunately, Ed died recently. I'll miss talking baseball with him. |

Amazing first hand account of Deacon. Deacon was born in 1847, lived to 91 (passed in 1939). Betty was born in 1921 would have been 18 when Deacon passed (Betty is 96 today). Per the interview, Deacon White moved into Betty's parents place when she was 5. Amazing to have first hand account of Deacon White from someone who was with him daily the last 13 years of his life.
Here is a more direct link to the Deacon White story that ran on NPR. Hit the play button or can read it as well. http://www.wbur.org/onlyagame/2017/0...l-hall-of-fame
