Did that last cartoon show Johnny Unitas passing for an AFL record?

The 2 cards I received today are not paper stock they are a cardboard stock, so perhaps the "cards" were cut from a box of some kind. Any one know of a box these images might have been cut from?

Is it possible someone did a very professional job of gluing the thin comic book paper to pieces of cardboard?

It took me a while, but I finally found a month of Marvel Comics that used that Aurora models ad on the back cover, May 1966. I broke out my Tales Of Suspense #77 and measured the Ruth drawing and the Dempsey drawing. They are both exactly 2 inches wide, but the Dempsey is slightly taller than the Ruth. The Ruth is about 1 and 5/16" x 2", the Dempsey is about 1 and 7/16" x 2". Are yours a different size? There is a seller on eBay with an Aurora Jim Brown "card" that wants $50 for it. That is why I thought someone would go through the trouble of cutting these off of a beat up 1966 comic book and then gluing them onto a piece of random cardboard and then trying to pawn them off as a "card" at a profit.

Good research, thanks very much. The 2 "cards" I have are exactly as you say. The Ruth card is 2" x 1-1/4" and the Dempsey is 2" x 1- 7/16" a little wider. In inspecting the cards it doesn't appear they are paper glued to cardboard, there is no separation or waffling/wrinkling from glue of the paper onto the cardboard but I guess it could. It appears to me that the "ad" cards may have been used on some cardboard somewhere. It appears to me that they image is on/part of the cardboard. The "cards" are sharp with excellent corners.

This could be the source of your cardboard card. About 2.5" x 1.75".
Edit: I take it back. It's not even the same picture. Last edited by Jerry G; 05-09-2017 at 08:04 AM. |
