I'll pay $3/box for just about anything. Figure it takes an hour to open/look through them all. Three dollars for an hour of pack-opening entertainment is one of the last remaining hobby bargains.

Spending 10 dollars an hour to have fun is right about par for a solid argument. I think it costs more to go bowling or to go play pool and drink some beers than it does to open some low cost packs of cards. If you are looking to spend time with a kid, most of the time it doesn't matter what you are actually doing, hence a low cost fun that is highly talkative and highly interactive is usually the best choice.
