I recently picked up a couple pages of pictures. No big deal.As I am sure that they are very plentiful. But the person that sold these too me suggested that they were the actual proofs(plates) that were used to do the magazines that the pictures were used in.I am pretty sure that would be to good to be true but I thought I would ask here and see if some of the very knowledgeable collectors could say I was mis-lead or on the outside chance that I may have bought a very cool item. Please take note of the word "plate" in the upper corner.Thanks.

What type of material are these on, just regular paper?
If anything I'd be leaning toward a proof, from a printing industry background standpoint. Not sure if that adds much of a premium to the value though. |

The paper is much heavier than what I would think would have been used to make the magazines. But I have never seen the publication that these would have been used in.So I may be 100% wrong about that.

Whether they are real plates or not, they are still cool pieces to own. ![]()

Good evening Dale.Nice to see you around.I think these may be even on heavier paper than the Bee Hives.I have had lots of those Bee Hives and the the paper stock always seemed light to me.I am not even sure what years these may be from.I am thinking maybe in the 60's and someone was doing a how too book /magazine on the different sports. But they could be much older. What do you think. I might post a old baseball item that I have. Not really all that valuable but certainly a neat item. Keep an eye open for it.

I do not know what these are, but I do not think you can draw any conclusions based upon use of the word PLATE. This was was commonly used in books for illustrative pages. Good luck.

I agree with bgar3 and D. Bergin. Back in the day, photos were usually printed in their own section in the middle of books, on better paper, and the pages were sometimes referred to as "plates."
I am not an expert but I know enough to categorically say that what you have are not printing plates.

Agree with the previous three posts. Also, a note on dating the source -- the book they're taken from is no older than a 1927 publication.
The shot of Meusel (Plate II, pic 3) is from the 1926 Series, and the last player shown in the hockey plate is wearing a New York Rangers uniform. Rangers didn't begin play until the 1926-27 season, which opened in mid-November.

I don't know what they are, but I think they are cool. The Ruth and the hockey players are outstanding. The clarity looks really good too. They would look nice framed up even if they aren't worth a ton.
